So while cruising around big auction site looking for sodbusters to add to my collection I came across a Bear & Sons Farmhand(their version of the sodbuster) for sale stating G10 handles. At first I thought this must be a misprint or typo by the lister but the pics did show handles that did not appear to be Delrin. I hopped over to their site and sure enough they have replaced the Delrin handles with G10 on all their small and large Farmhand knives. I already owned the Delrin versions of the small yellow, black and small yellow lockback farmhands but felt the need, despite the poor quality control over and B&S, to add the new versions to by collection. So far the only version to hit the door step is the small yellow G10 Farmhand but the other two will be here soon. I decided to take a few side by side pics to show the differences between the two and to let you know some of my thoughts and observations. I will disclose that the yellows seem much different but in reality they are not as different as the pic may lead, I feel that the slicker finish of the Delrin reflects a bit more light causing it to appear much lighter in the picture than the G10, it's not by much. The first obvious difference is that the smooth Delrin look is gone, replaced by a textured looking G10, but there are a few others. The smooth rounded contoured handles of the Delrin have been replaced by a less contoured and more blocky style handle. I personally feel the contoured handles are a bit more comfortable and nicer looking but I don't think that for most everyday applications it would cause any major discomfort or hotspots. The next difference kind of took me by surprise, the G10 version is linerless. Despite being linerless they still are about the same size in thickness, but the G10 version is noticeably lighter in weight. I guess losing the stainless liners dropped some weight as well as the possibility that G10 is lighter than the Delrin. Fit & finish is a little better on the G10 version, good walk and talk and no gaps like my Delrin version. B&S's has had many issues with QC but this one passes my test, especially for the $18 bucks that I picked it up for with 1095 steel. I'll post picks and thoughts on the others as they come in this week. Thanks for looking and here are a few pics

Added New Blue g10 handle version as well as the lockback and black G10. The blue handled version has pretty good fit and finish, easy pull and no real blade play or issues and comes in 440 SS. The Black has a hard pull, major side to side play(see pic) and the pivot pin protrudes a lot, this is also in SS. The lockback is pretty decent, slight up and down play but for the price it's decent, comes in 1095 like the non locking yellow version.

i am thoroughly impressed! i have a bear and son and its pretty anemic, but with that g10 and that execution, that looks like a worthy knife. congrats

That brand gets a lot of flack for FnF but that looks pretty good to me for 18 bucks and 1095!

I like it! I've been passively looking for another sodbuster after getting my Queen - this one may be the one I get next. I like that it comes in a large version also as I find the 3.5" one that I have a bit small for my hands.

Hows the pull on it? I have to stay away from heavy pulls, but the sodbusters are a big plus as I can pinch them open.

Pull is about a 6, you can pinch it open but with wet hands you may have to use the nail nick.

Thanks - I can live with a 6 along with being pinchable.

I now saw a black one in the same version - you can really see the texture of the G10 in the pic because of it being black.

I used to think B&S, was a very sorry manufacturer, but these seem to be very serviceable examples. They were priced right too, it seems, only other sub 20 dollar, non Rough Rider Sodbuster I know of that's of respectable quality is the Robert Klaas Brown Mule, and I like the looks of the B&S better.

My opinion of them has been impacted. For the better. I wonder if they could put the same quality in their Remington line? And keep the same prices.

I will have to see one up close though before I bite the bullet. Not so averse now though.

Color me interested. Can't be worse than my Case CV Sodbuster Jr. The G10 looks kinda thick considering how much stronger/stiffer it should be to delrin.

Looks like they have a 4.5" black G10 version too, in 440C.

I'm with you. That knife looks like a great worker, and take my word for it, G10 is easy to sand to get he contours you want.

I have a Cold Steel American Lawman that is linerless as well, and you would never know it. It is strong as any other knife I own. I sanded the G10 scales on it under the pocket clip with 220gr paper to smooth out the really grippy texturing as it was tearing up my pocket.

If I see one of those I like I will probably grab it as I would round those edges off in no time to fit my hand.

I have never seen yellow G10, so thanks for the post!

Robert

It has no liners..
