Bear with me, looking for a 4" blade knife

Okay, I had a muddy Meaner, but the blade was too narrow for my likings. Got a fat Warden, and it is a great user. Great EDC carry. I would like to get a Busse with a bigger blade though for camping etc. No big choppers yet, although I just traded off my Swamp Rat and am getting lonesome. I saw an Active Duty in the Wilderness forum, and really like that. Not looking for any special runs, coatings etc, just a good 4-4.5 in blade knife. I've done this before, but can't find the thread. If this could get merged with that thread, or if I could get some more ideas in this range, it would be appreciated. Thanks.

Not to discourage, but those are also three hard Busses to find. Jerry was taking input on a bushcraft blade a while back, but it could be years before that one comes to light.

Your best bet, for immediate gratification, might be one of the newer Combat Grade (CG) BATACs (Badger Attack Tacticals). It'll be coated, but the coated blades are thinner than the satin Limited Edition versions. I think it's probably more in line with what you're looking for. There's always the chance that a SHBA or BAIII might turn up, however.

Maybe a little bigger than you're seeking, but the CG BATAC is a nice 5" blade that will do just about any camp chore you put in front of it. This one rides in my day pack at all times.

This will give you an idea of the relative sizes of the BATAC and BA3:

Other "rare" options would be the NARK, Euro-4, GrooveMaster and Buffalo Hunter.

The Active Duty is very similar to the Meaner, just with a bit more belly:

The AD only has a 3 1/2" blade though. I agree with the CG BATAC in keeping with what is readily available and fairly close to what you described. It is a pretty good all around camp knife in my opinion. It has a deep belly and the 5" blade. I have seen a couple on the exchange lately for what I thought was a very reasonable price. The ones with mags fit my hands better.
 
Are you sure you don't want the Busse sister blade, ( :p ) a Swamp Rat HRLM? That might fit what your looking for.
 
HRLM, poor mans BAIII. When Jerry makes his bushcraft knife, I will bet it looks alot like these two. They are a very good size, shape, weight for what you are describing.
