Must have forged the head for this a month ago and finally dicided I'd better finish it off before it got lost. Its got a 3 1/4" cutting edge with a handmade oak handle that is 18" long. Infact the oak was given to me by Bruce Evans when he was out West taking care of his Dad....Ray

Kewl. What steel did you use? Curious, what method/style of heat treating did you use on that piece. Again, nice.

It was hand forged from a piece of 1" square 1084/95. I just tempered about 1" of the cutting face. You can just bairly see the temperline.......Ray

Man Raymond I didn't know you're a Viking too! :D That is deceptively simple, I really like the deep cross section of your handle at the axe head; very businesslike and - warlike. I can almost hear the wailing of the villagers now... Awesome. Thanks for scaring me!

Now that's awsome! Just wondering, how did you drift the head, did you make a special drift?

Sure does look mean!

Will, I didn't make a special drift for this head. Lets say it is a custom head, I actually made the eye a touch to big for the factory handles I had. All I did was just elonggate the eye by hammering on the sides of the eye......Ray

Way to cool Ray !!!!!
That is a awesome use of the Oak from Dad's house.
Keep them coming buddy:cool:

Very Cool! I have a great appreciation for axes and hawks now that I have attempted one, unsuccesfully! I really like the Viking look you've got going.
