Not sure if you guys are into hatchets and such but thought I'd go ahead and post this here. Hand forged from a piece of 1084/95 1" square stock. Its got a 3 1/4" cutting edge with a handmade oak handle that is 18" long....Ray

I like hatchets and hawks very much. The shape you chose for the head is one that I find very appealing. My preference is for fiddleback or tiger maple handles, but oak is a great utilitarian handle material. Low cost and toughness make oak a great choice for a user. How is the balance for throwing?

Keith, As for you question on balance for throwing I'm thinking the handle may be just alittle short for throwing. What little I know about throwing them you could fit into a thimble but I've heard that a longer handle of 20"- 22" works better. I'm going to have to make one for my own use just to come up with some answers for folks....Ray
