Nothing that's still here is quite what I'm looking for right now, but for future reference, are hairline cracks in a horn handle of the sort that often end up here pretty much just a cosmetic issue, or are they enough of a structural weakness that they make the handle substantially more likely to fail?

Hmm, that Dil Bowie is tempting. The way it both does and doesn't have a clip-point is interesting.

Usually they're cosmetic only. If you're worried you can always hydrate the handle with hooflex or mineral oil and then put some epoxy in the crack to keep it from moving. Hairline cracks end up as DOTD blems pretty often.

Mr. Blue, I do believe we are twins separated at birth. That is a fine looking knife. My pick of the day right next to the KK, and I'm awfully glad you scooped it up.
Hope you didn't get stealth sharked.

I got the two sweetest words in the english language (Done Deal). She looks like a fine knife and the first of its kind as far as I know.

It looks to have at least two advantages over the KK:

1: The KK has a heavy thick blade. Thicker than you'd ever need for a pure belt knife but too short to do any serious chopping with. This bowie adds a couple few inches so it should be able to chop as well as slice.

2: It has a cross guard. I'm a klutz and I know my fingers would eventually slide onto the KK blade with nothing to stop them.

Excellent points and it's quite obvious you got all the brains while I got all the natural good looks.

I wouldn't have thought it'd be substantially thinner than a KK at 20oz. You're right about the handle though. KK handles can be a bit short and with no guard theres always a chance of an accident.

Naw, I got one of them mouths that run on their own without needing any input from a brain. Brains'll only get you in trouble. Who needs 'em! Better to use that space between your ears for something that's actually useful. Personally I use my skull for beef jerky storage.

But anyways I'm super excited to be the first one to get my hands on this new kind of Bowie . I love my JKM-1 and KK and I think this bugger will fill out the family nicely.

Looks like we might have a photo finish between Mopar and Conan! I'm on the edge of my seat, ok I'm always on the end of my seat but this is exciting. Hope she has two, I do hate a broken heart.

I expect it to be more or less the same thickness as the KK. I'm of the mindset that any knife bigger or heavier than a Mora ought to be able to chop. If you're gonna carry a big heavy knife like the KK, why not add an extra few inches and ounces to it and get something you can whack some branches with?
