I'll let the pics do the talking, and yes there was a purpose to all the batoning.

:D a better mousetrap.

Nah I'm entering the "build a stretcher contest", and she was going to get a free lift, but I got a call that my brother-in-law just got a puppy, so I had to abandon the half finished stretcher and go pet it.

all those wielders of small..... blades, know it's not the size that matters it;s how you use it . . .

Well it might not be that long, but it's pretty thick -- kinda like a cheese wheel.
And everyone loves a good cheese wheel! Just ask Ron White's wife.

A puppy will do that every time!
pics of the puppy on the finished stretcher:thumbup:

How did the edge hold up? I'm assuming not great going across the grain like that.

I just checked, and it cut/shaved arm hair. I haven't touched the edge up yet, and after feeling it I may not have to, 1095 has some good edge retention.
ETA: now it was a little bit sharper before hand, but the knife is no where near dull, maybe after I build the ambulance for the stretcher it will be.

I got to play with the puppy before I went out and finished it today, but I couldn't post a picture of the puppy on the stretcher.... :D something that cute in a contest thread would be cheating.

That is some nice edge retention!

:grumpy: yeah the bastard just poke me as i was cleaning the sap off of it, and I didn't notice until the hot water hit my hand. ehh it was probably just getting even with me, no hard feelings.

The Izula is as tough as they come. I don't know if I've mentioned it before or not but I batoned mine straight into the end grain of an Elm log, all the way up to the hilt. It took some working it back and forth to finally get it out but definitely impressed me.
