No, No, No.......... That's not right...........

Here is one that I forged from a piece of "Spring Toothed Cultivator". Since I was not sure what the steel was, I decided to really test it prior to spending the time of putting a handle and guard on it. I had the edge ground to around 1/32" and managed to take a wooden maul and hammer the blade about 3/4 way through a 3/16 brazing rod. I did this several times and only had to clean the bronze residue off the blade. This sucker is as tuff as can be.

Normalized 3 times........... Edge quenched at 1465 four times.......... Tempered at 400 three times.............

Steel..... Forged from ?????? Your guess is as good as mine.
Stainless guard and Nickel/Silver buttcap
Stag Handle (not the best piece I ever used)
OAL 11"
Blade Tip to Guard 6 1/2"

Thanks for looking............ Robert

Actually, it is right:

Joel 3:10 --
Beat your plowshares into swords,
and your pruning hooks into spears;
let the weak say, "I am a warrior."

The "swords into plowshares" passage is found in Isaiah 2:4 and Micah 4:3.

So, when do we get to see what you can do with a pruning hook?

Love it,did you blue the blade or what?
What ever you did I like it.
The blade is etched in Ferric Chloride. This helps to bring out the quench line, and shows all types of little crazy patterns in the hardened steel.

Nice knife! The steel is almost certainly one of the 10xx steels. Probably 1080. That's what the new ones I've seen at Tractor Supply Company are.
