I just started going fishing again and i found that my folders just can't hack it, so i need a fixed blade. I'm not going to be using this knife for cleaning fish but rather for things like clearing small brush, whittling, cutting rope and fishing line, maybe for food here and there. I would prefer stainless for the blade, but wouldn't mind carbon as long as it's coated.

Requirement:
3.5"-5" blade
preferably a leather seath
decent blade steel (AUS-8 or better)
Here's the kicker, i only have about a $60 budget or else i'd would have a BRKT on order by now.

thanks in advance everybody.

Kershaw Echo somes to mind.
And a Ka-bar hunter, their are quite a few models, but a little laking on the steel side.

Except for the leather sheath, you would be well served with a $10 Frosts of Sweden or other Mora knife. You can't go wrong with the Frosts Clipper.

I used to carry a KaBar Wharthog Impact when I went fishing and it was the best knife I'd used for the tasks. I grew legs and left my tackle box at some point though. Effin' theives...

I loved that knife.

Buck 119- I know it's not AUS-8, but I'd say that Buck's 420 HC heat treated by Paul bos is as good as AUS-8.

Here is another vote for the Buck 119. Buck also offers many other knives that may fit your needs better.

Check them out at Buckknives.com

Best of luck,
John

Gerber Freeman Caper, S30V, coated or plain $65 to $75 at Cabelas.

Benchmade fixed Griptilian, 154CM (my favorite), about $60 to $65 at NewGraham, Grand Prairie, etc.

Mora 740, 846, 960, etc, Sandvik stainless, about $12 avg. at RagweedForge

While I love a nicer blade like the first two, you can't beat a Mora or three for the boat and tackle box, and one for the belt!

thanks for the responses, keep em' coming.
Can anybody give me some feedback on the orion K2 caper, looks decent.
g-10 sclaes, 154CM, leather sheath, bout 60 bones...
