Ever do what I do and look and look and look and never quite decide what an end all be all bag would work for you? Folks I ain't kidding it drives me bananas doesn't it ya'll? I am toting a Rothco "Jack Sack" timestamp at present and while it handles my shower bag duties admirably it does lack a bit in comfort. Then, when I have tried sling bags they are too skinny and hurt the shoulders when loaded up. Backpacks? While comfortable when it comes to carrying more weight they are just plain awkward in some EDC situations. Crazy ain't it? Lol

I have a large 'collection' of bags. Frame pack, day pack, field bags, duffels, briefcases and portfolios, camera bags...

No such thing as one bag to do everything. :)

The only time that I have one bag for everything, is when I only have one bag. I've got more bags than my wife! but then she doesn't abuse her purses the way I do.

You abuse your wife's purses?! You need to get a new hobby :)

Seems like every time I buy a bag I find something wrong with it. It doesn't matter if its cheap or expensive there's a problem with it. Even if its the right size, its uncomfortable, not enough pockets, difficult access, bad design. You would think with so many manufacturers out there someone could get it right.

I solved this by having 4 bags, a modular type of system. There is 1-2 bag minimum for most trips everyday (one over the shoulder, the other over the shoulder or carry with handle). Then if I need certain tools I add a soft backpack. And if I need everything, I have another case with cover, includes option of handle or shoulder carry. I just make sure to do a count before leave and return to make sure that I have all my stuff. For me, having several dedicated bags is better than switching things from bag to bag and back--less stuff gets lost, forgotten, separated, or messed up. Is also better than putting everything in the same bag where it all jumbles together and if I don't need something I have to take it out, put it back, etc.

There are convertible briefcases that come with a shoulder strap for carry as a messenger bag, or hidden backpack straps in a zip pocket on the back. The different carry modes can be really convenient, especially when traveling. The ones I've used had decent organizational setups.

Yes it's a never ending journey for me. I've got more bags than my wife too. I'm constantly on the look out for the perfect bag, shoes, coats/jackets, clothing, knives, flashlights, cameras, watches in an attempt to streamline my daily wear, travel gear, etc so I can pack lighter and be as efficient as possible. It's ridiculous really. THe good thing is that I recognize the situation and I've started cleaning house, taking pics of my stuff to start selling locally on some Facebook buy&sell groups as well as kijiji. I want to streamline my possessions and life in general. Way too much "stuff" in my life.

I am kinda thinking about dabbling into the Waxed canvas bags.

I got one off the forums recently, the https://www.frostriver.com/shop/carrier-brief-messenger-bag/ Frost River is a spinoff of Duluth Pack.

It is slightly heavier than the typical nylon bag and quickly weathers to a nondescript appearance. Very lowkey.

Definitely replaces a few of my larger bags for woods rambling. Very tough, the waxed canvas wiped clean from spills inside. Nicely divided for small and larger gear. They have a wide variety of sizes and styles and accessories.
