I got this baby yesterday in the mail and decided it would look awesome with a dark acid stonewash. One day and some ferric acid later, this thing looks great.

I absolutely love the spartan but I dont really have use of a knife quite this big so I think I'm gonna send it over to fee-bay and use the money I get from that to buy a new knife and try again with a different pattern like a tiger stripe.

Nope, not with Ferric acid.

Recenly Zircon sandwashed a folder blade though.

Very, very cool

How did you apply the ferric acid? Looks good.

Glass jar, 1 part acid to about 4 parts water. Soaked it in for about 8 or 9 minutes checking constantly to make sure it didnt get too dark. Use nail polish to keep the acid off of the pivot area and lock engagement surfaces.

Looks nice. Add some G-10 scales with not so much curve at the butt of the handle and you're good to go.
I don't prefer a blade that big but it does look nice.

Very nice effect on that blade. Can't say I like the Spartan much, but I think you've improved the look of it 100%.

Thanks, I just really dont enjoy bead blasted finishes much anymore. Stonewash, acid etched, mirror polish, all preferable. I do want to get into duracoating as well for my super heavy duty knives

Powernoodle approves of the knife and the blade finish. He doesn't talk in the 3rd person like this unless he really approves. Thats a lot of knife for $53 shipped. He has a CM-modded Spartan, but may have get a new one and recreate what you have done here. Looks great.

Did you put nail polish in the edge bevel was well? Towards the tip it looks a bit wonky in how much it thins out.

That looks amazing! Where did you buy the acid? Think I might try This myself.

Radio shack. Its PCB etchant, cost about 11 dollars.

Nope, since its AUS8 its soft and I had to reprofile it anyway cause the edge as it came to me was somewhat thick, i didnt bother.
