Beautiful babies, found at yard sale. reminds me of my youth

I remember seeing those around when I was a kid. We used to get them at the local hardware store.

Thanks and agreed to both. I think mine cost a little over $2 same time as when you could buy guns over the counter no age or checks and matchbox cars were made of metal and in individual boxes for 20 cents or so. Damn, miss those days

Brings back memories! Love those old Barlows.

I had quite a few of those as a kid. The scales would come off one after a while and I'd get another. Those are actually decent knives apart from those hollow scales.

Yep, good find there. Congrats.

Sure, the plastic covers and clip on bolsters always made me think they were just toy knives. Now I appreciate the good carbon steel. I still find them at yard sales and junk shops. Wonder how many of them were made?

Nice, very nice! My brothers and I would play a bizarre version of mumblety peg with ours. Reminds me of a time you could get a Waltham dollar watch for about 3 bucks.Brand new.

Peace and Love

Yeah, one thing those Imperial shells had going for them was their great carbon blades.

Nice scores!

I'm not sure if the barlows are my cup o tea, but great find none the less. There are definitely some gems out there to be found

Those old Imperials are great knives. Pop off the shell handles and glue on some wood, and they're pretty, too.

Yes, these Imperial Barlows were among the first I collected because they reminded me of a simpler time, my youth in the 1960s and early 70s. Also reminds me of my grandfather.

Those old Barlows are some of my favorite traditional knives ever. Ive had one since I was a wee young buck and still have it, although it has some really bad side to side blade play in the larger blade. Does anyone know how to get rid of this play. I was thinkin thered be a pin that holds the pivot together that i could peen or something, but I cant figure out how to get the bolsters off? Any help would be appreciated. They look just about exactly 5he same as th knives posted in this thread.

The one-piece handles are held on by folded tabs fore and aft.
Sorry, 3 tabs and 2 pieces.

I picked up an old Richards jackknife, sheet plastic stag and sheet metal bolsters but the blades take a keen edge. Always odd that steel was still good back then while the construction was crap.
