Beautiful!...but wait!

I recently got this 3 5/8" Schrade Walden jack. Really nice bone and the main blade appears pretty full...but...upon further inspection. Some yahoo has taken a grinder to this gem!

Now we see the tang of the main blade...

Looks like the previous owner wasn't satisfied with the geometry of the sabre grind, and decided to take it to a flat grind instead. WHO EVER HEARD OF SUCH A THING???

Yep...I like that site! Main blade has some wobble. I will try to tighten it up a bit. The bone is just amazing!

Lol! I suspect that someone found it in good condition but a a coating of rust on both blades and decided to clean it...maybe. Hard to say the tangs look clean and not polished otherwise.

Get a good deep patina on that, and you'll hardly notice the grindage.

Looks like a winner to me!

I think they did that because they wanted that notch at the end of the edge. Maybe for sharpening purposes. They didn't do a particularly good job, but that knife is far from ruined.
