I recently got this 3 5/8" Schrade Walden jack. Really nice bone and the main blade appears pretty full...but...upon further inspection. Some yahoo has taken a grinder to this gem!

Now we see the tang of the main blade...

I will spare my comments on that yahoo  but the knife looks great and I'm sure you can give it a bit of tenderness and it will learn the path into your pocket :)

You can't change what someone did to it in the past, you can only love it for what it is now. Keep it warm in your pocket and give it lots of attention and it will always be yours.

Looks like the previous owner wasn't satisfied with the geometry of the sabre grind, and decided to take it to a flat grind instead. WHO EVER HEARD OF SUCH A THING??? ;)

Grinder marks or not, that is one GORGEOUS Schrade! You did well in my book!

I'd treat that one like a stray pet I adopted...show it a little love, a little care, and it will probably shine in your eyes in short order...

Hhmmmm, a recurve plunge line . . . . just might be the new fad! Gorgeous bone, though.

Its a real beauty.
That yahoo you mention was probably my Grandfather or one of his mates. They were different back then.:)

Lol! I suspect that someone found it in good condition but a a coating of rust on both blades and decided to clean it...maybe. Hard to say the tangs look clean and not polished otherwise.

Get a good deep patina on that, and you'll hardly notice the grindage.

Looks like a winner to me!

I think they did that because they wanted that notch at the end of the edge. Maybe for sharpening purposes. They didn't do a particularly good job, but that knife is far from ruined.

Off to the quote thread with you.

The words spoken by you are some of the most true I have heard all week.
