Just recently received this beautiful work of art from my friend, knifemaker Paul Reynolds. Paul and I kicked ideas around and with his knifemaking skills he created a true winner. This thing is as handy as it is beautiful and is it ever overbuilt! Wonderful hand filling and gorgeous stabilized Masur Birch handle. It balances so well in the hand especially for detailed work. Paul is amazing in the finish he can get on the Talonite. The photos don't do it justice but it's a wonderful satin almost gloss finish. I have seen a lot of Talonite knives and have never seen such a handsome finish! Beautiful red and copper spacers that compliment the Masur Birch so well. For a touch of class he added a beautiful stainless/copper mosaic pin in the middle. It doesn't show very well but the soldered stainless guard even has miniature mosaic pins embedded in it! The hand cut thumb serrations work as fabulous as they look! This thing is as utility as it is gorgeous. Paul Reynolds is a maker to be reckoned with as this knife attests. He is a super guy who will work with you and is as nice as they come. I am proud to call him my friend. You can check some of his stuff out at: www.paulknife.com A knife like this is what loving and using knives is all about! Thanks Paul! Pics:

I'll second Peter's comment on the handle. The wood/spacer/stainless combination is very nice.

Thank you and I couldn't agree more. One thing I forgot to mention is that Talonite blades are notorious for NOT being shaving sharp. Paul Reynolds knows how to sharpen blades and this knife, even though it is Talonite, is "HAIR POPPING" sharp!

Tom Mayo can make em shaving sharp using talonite and when it gets a little dull...I can get it right back to shaving "hair popping" sharp with just some light strokes on a DMT stone...no problem...OH yeah...NICE KNIFE!!!!!

Gene - you got a beauty there! Thanks for sharing the pics. Love that birch handle.

Besides being another very "pretty" knife, it also does have the look of something that would fit well in your hand!! (or mine!)

I too had read that Talonite/Stellite didn't sharpen that well: in my personal experience, both Tom Mayo and Neil Blackwood can sharpen the stuff to a hair popping edge!!!

I KNOW Tom knows Talonite but so does Paul, (even though like a lot of makers, he doesn't really care for it that much

). I picked this unusual Birch because it's very dense and Paul had made me a miniature folder using it. It also has the most beautiful grain structure and "eyes" in it. One of the things I don't like in a handle is when it doesn't fill your hand. Paul and I discussed this and he made sure this one was "hand filling" even destroying some pieces of Birch in the process to get it just right. As with any knife, pictures never do them justice and you have to see and feel this one to appreciate it. I love Talonite and I love this knife and Paul's work.
Oh yeah, on maintaining the edge on Talonite a trick I learned with my early Rob Simonich Talonite Cetan is to use the back of a writing tablet. Ernie Emerson suggested it and it works great. It's the fiberboard backing that comes on writing tablets. I stroppe the edge several times and it brings the edge right back. As with any edge just don't let it get too dull.

I would have to agree, I am friends with Paul Reynolds deal his knives for him, and he is a great maker. He is one of the makers who if he wanted to could make a splash, IF he wanted to. He is content to work as he does, making knives one at a time for people who wants a really good knife.
