This black beauty was made by Michael Andersson (Sweden) for his section
in my book "The Art of Custom Knifemaking" (2006).

Here is its description:

"Mimer", 2005
Named after the "Well of Knowledge" in the old Scandinavian mythology,
Mimer's blade is made in a San Mai technique using Swedish tool steel for
the cutting edge (15N20 and 20C), going through the whole blade, forged with a twist.

Slices of Web Mosaic made from mild steel and pure Nickel were then forged on both
sides of the cutting edge.

Handle is ancient walrus ivory, Overall length is 11 3/8" (290 mm).

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

Here is the hand forged blade and then the blade after grinding
and the heat treating process, ready for etching.

David - Thanks for sharing. I love your books. The knives depicted in them are truly inspirational!

Micke does some great work (although I think his son Andre is even more talented). Check out this one about spiders as well with carving by Vladimir Burkovski (from Isreal). David you for sure have some of his work for show and tell, don't you?

Marcel

Yes, Marcel, Vladimir is a young and most talented knife artist
living on the other side of Israel, in Haifa.
Our country is so small that the "other side" is about 130 miles
from where I live in Jerusalem... :)

He is now concentrating on making and carving knife handles, usually
using beautiful blades made especially for him by top bladesmiths
from all over the world.

Is the Andersson-Burkovski knife in your collection? Great piece!

All the best,
David Darom (ddd)

Masterful manipulation of the material on the Andersson piece.
He has some very distinctive design elements.
Thanks for the images, David.

Hello,
My name is Vladimir, it's nice to meet you.
Thank you David for the good words about my works.
Micky Andersson make really nice blades, and I enjoyed to work with him.
I have few of his blades, and would like to show you my last work, where I used one of them.

Great package, Vladimir! You told me about this one
but I never got to see it....

The carved handle...... well, as usual, nothing less than perfection!

All the best,
