Beautiful Garud AK by Durba. Pix. Save $50.

View

Here is an excellently executed Garud AK by our rising star, Durba. It is 20.5 inches overall and weighs 2.25 pounds. The fit is perfect, finish magic mirror, hardness around 58 Rc my old file says, and the carving on the handle is very well done. Karda and chakma fine.

The problem with this rig is it was in the parcel that took the heavy hit and the silver chape got bent over as you can see. The silver is soft so it should make for an easy home repair but you can always send it to Terry Sisco if you want and he can make it just like new for a fraction of what you will save.

We will deliver this rig to your door today for $145, a fifty dollar saving.

Call or email if interested.

Research my RRA!! I might have missed it altogether except that I was on the 'phone with my rotten ki.....er... beloved son, while he was viewing the forum. He had to tell me about it, I had to look, and the bugs started to hum in my veins. I told his mother it was his fault, and she said....well never mind what she said. I don't want to lose my posting rights

That's what family is for... to instigate trob... uh... encourage research

BTW... the spare bed will soon be set up... you will have to share it with the puppies though

Puppies, schmuppies - I've made a pup tent out of the cover over the charcoal grill, and I ain't moving 'til the mail gets here. That dayumed blue jay sure fights hard for those sunflower seeds, though. Wonder what the neighbor is having for lunch......

Hmmmm...

A flying jay bird... a small, fast moving target. You'll need a little more reach... but a fast blade to hit a high speed target...

I think you'll need a 25" Kobra for your new living environment. Wait... don't you already have one of those??? In that case... you better go with the Katana instead...

Walosi my Brother I am really, really proud that I am no longer the only one here with a RRA!!!!
biggrin.gif

And I knew it (The AK) wouldn't be for just Research.

I am getting a 12"AK that will go along with my 18"AK and
Barb's 15"AK.
Perhaps one of these days I will luck into a 20" or 20"+ like this one to make up the complete set.
But I'm in no hurry.
The gun safe is about full with the guns and khukuris anyway.
I also need to build some shelves to make more room in it to hold the khukuris better.
And believe me there's a multitude of things I "need" to do.
biggrin.gif

On another topic I really need to get the Hanuman as forged blade I have finished up.
I have a beautiful piece of Cocobolo that will make a beutiful two toned handle for it!!!!
wink.gif
Thanks again Bro!!!!!

I think it's a real shame for anyone with any talent at all not to investigate the as forged blades and make them into finished khukuris.
That hammer dingy finish that James Mattis as well as many of the rest of us really love makes for one beautiful khukuri.
The Chainpuri as forged blade I got made a beautiful "balanced" as well as a Fully Curved khukuri.
The handle is a tad small in diameter, but it fits me well and the khukuri is pure weapon. Very light and very fast with a really nice 9-10 Oz. slightly tooled sheath.
Bro and Yangdu can tell you about it.
Yangdu was really impressed with the sheath and both Bro and Yangdu said that they wished that quality of leather was available in Nepal.

Really guys it doesn't take "that" much talent to finish one of these beauties if Uncle Bill still has them available.
And I found out a long time ago that what one may lack in talent or knowledge and skill can be pretty much made up for with lots of care and patience along with some real thought and time.

Walosi, et al, it would be really wonderful if you could get a smallish blade, say a 12"-15" Chainpuri as forged blade and finish it out.
Kumar done a wonderful job on mine with very little work needed to actually finish it.
I used a lot of artistic license to sorta remake the blade into a fully curved model and power tols would be needed to tackle something like that, but a good set of files and a hand drill to make the hole in the handle is all anyone would need to finish one out. And it would have been all I needed to actually finish the Chainpuri I got.
I just happened to "see" what was there without the excess material around the khukuri.
I think the pic of it may still be around here somewheres, maybe in the archive?

Yvsa:

I think once you get into that Cocobolo, and really polish it out and oil it, you will see grain and color that were never evident at the start.

Besides HIKV, I also have Woodchuckitus, which causes you to float free of your body if you stare into the grain of a fine wood too long. Comes in real handy, since they hid my beer.

WOODCHUCKITUS !!!!!! HIKV and now this!!!
Do you grow big buck teeth and a bushy tail when you cath this?
Terry

That is something you definitely don't want to catch in Kentucky... shooting woodchucks is a national past time there! You won't even hear the report before you get hit (paraphrased from the movie Joe Kidd)

But then, you must suffer for your art

Terry -

I don't think so, but then I've never really been around when it happens
smile.gif

That's another reason I worry about Yvsa and his Cedar. You stare at the grain and get lost in it, but if you sniff the wood to boot,I just don't know............

Yeah, I know - get back in the cellar......

:
Yes you can T-Bone, but not so as one would notice.

Walosi I have it too and have had it for years.

Here's the threads showing pix of the as forged blades and the finished khukuri.
Also a team effort to restore the 1st 15" Ang Khola Uncle Bill recieved.
The thread is worth the read.

AC:

We have groundhogs (or pasture poodles) in Kentucky. Woodchucks are in Pennsylvania, or New Jersey or Schenectady - "furrin" places lke that.

They are the official Logan County animal, and the .22-250 is KING!!

Yvsa -

"The reads are worth the read". Got to be the understatement of the year.

Now I'll have to start haunting the archives.
