I knew it was going to be good, just didn't know it was going to be *this* good!
Certain makers have a sense of design and originality that obviously sets them apart from their peers, others have an... aura... of quality about their work that can be spotted across the room. Dave Kelly is one of the very lucky few that have both.
Dave's attention to detail is superb, the sandwiching of copper and bronze (!) creates a striking bolster/guard arrangement while playing wonderfully with the green & copper-hued mastadon ivory!
It's the little things that count; the top of the blade coming out of the bolster is ever-so-slightly radiused so as not to present a sharp corner, the seam between blade and bolster is all but invisible, the fit and finish is as if it were all a single piece.
The sandwiched liners and file work follows the lead of the bolsters, and blend perfectly with the cream mastadon ivory slabs, the shape of which is a joy to hold
The hamon on the blade is just beautiful. (Pay no attention to the dust...)
And then the sheath
The sheath on the bottom is also by Dave Kelly, since it's just a beautiful sheath though it's worth a view!
Sorry for the crappy pics, but just wanted to show off my #1 fixed blade in the collection, and say " Thanks Dave!"
