Beautiful Night Tonight

Just got back from a 2 mile hike in the woods. The moon is out so bright I didn't even need to turn on my headlamp. Most of the trees in our area are hardwoods so the moonlight really comes down thru the trees and you can see the contours of the hills and hollows in the moonlight. Beautiful.

Bit cold for hiking here at night presently but I'm healthy, there's a roof over my head, and my stomach's full.

It's a good night, that's for sure. I hope that tomorrow night is just as good.

Enjoy the moon for me, HD. I'm not planning on seeing it again until June. ;)

I know the feeling. 24th straight day of rain, flood watches, the water table is rising and leaking into the basement.

Do you think khukuris would be useful for building an ark?

I don't know why, but Winter always gets a couple great moons.
I used to take people hiking by moonlight; we called them moonruns.

Howard, I would be very surprised if Noah had used something else...especially if he'd ever been to the NW.

I just got back from taking the dog for her nightly puddle.
Beautiful moon, clear and crisp.
A single cloud stretched like a lacy ribbon from one horizon to the other.
Awesome.

Munk,

We do that to people who visit too. Some people rent movies when company comes over. We take them on a hike.

Satori,

It's pretty warm maybe in the 30's last night.

Must have been a universally beautiful moon for those of us that could see it. The wife and I go to the gym at quarter till 5 every morning. Plenty of dark left. Even though we live close to the airport with it's noxious orange glow, the moon and stars were so bright and so crisp. It was a special moon to be sure. The stars always seem to poke through at least a little bit. We live far enough out that if the airport wasn't so close we would get some very vivid nights. I always get a chuckle out of seeing Orion poised over the garage of my house when I arrive home from work in the evenings. How utterly flattering and yet narcissistic of myself it entertain the idea that a giant made of stars is going to smash my house with his club. How stunning it would have been to see the open sky 200 years ago.

It was nice and clear last night here too, though I don't go nor do I advise any to go out at night 'round here in this part of WV....I've heard some very strange things in the woods here.

No I'm not kidding....at the very least we have a black panther running loose out here! at most? I dunna want to say.

Well I did get to see the moon early this morning. It stopped raining for a few hours so Billy the dog and I went out for a morning jog and some tai chi in the park. The moon peeked through the clouds. It really was pretty.

Maybe God listens to whiners! ;)

Hey, I appreciate the moon also! Now that you've explained the terminology I finally understand why sometimes people yell at me "HEY, MOONRUN!" :D

What part? I live in Cabell Co and about the only thing I hear is coyotes, opossums and deer!

The only place I have ever heard the panther legend is up on Kennison Mt near Richwood and I don't think anyone has ever been able to prove one is there.

just outside of Pennsboro....I've seen the damn panther! twice in the woods and once my grandma seen it come slinking through our yard!! thanks but I don't set foot in the forest after dark!

Other then that....I don't talk much of this but I'll tell this:I've heard coyotes;foxes;owls;and other wildlife but I'll be damned if any can prove that I haven't heard the oddest;most ungodly scream in the forest at night that'll make anybody go "what the hell??!!" don't ask what that is-I don't know

I've heard a lot of bobcats up there hunting in Wirt and Richie Counties, but never any cougar, although it's been 20 years since I was hunting up there.

You should report your sightings and take pictures of any tracks and send them to these people.

http://www.easterncougar.org/

They are trying to confirm any sightings and get any hard evidence.

You'know I've heard it said it might be a black cougar....what I saw was about 5 1/2 feet maybe a bit longer...the regular cougar is pretty much accepted as being a normal thing up here,as long as they don't bug with small cattle (or my cats) folk leave'em alone :D

Maybe I should carry a camera hn? and no wonder I carry a pistol all the time.

The Cougar can make a horrible scream, changing, twisting, sometimes like that of an old woman in mortal pain, sometimes something else. A very haunting and terrible thing to hear alone in the woods.
I don't know if all big cats can do this, I just know the Cougar can. It does not sound like a cat at all.

Well...you all might laugh (go ahead) but I swear I've seen something big and furry walking on two legs back here,as long as it stays away I don't care.

But yes Munk I've heard that cougars can make an awful racket...I just don't wanna go in the woods at night and have one plop down on my back!! that could ruin a guy's night! :D

And I heard the scream last night,'bout 12:30 A.M. we've nothing but forest for a good few miles around us so it be el primo cougar turf.

Big and furry and two legs?

I thought NAsty lived in Ohio.

Personally, I doubt the existence of Bigfoot.

Beautiful night indeed, wonder it didn't get a bit "musical" and odiferous, since I was serving up some "hotter'n he&&" chili and iron skillet cornbread to some friends of mine. If it don't taste like a mouthful of fire ants, it just ain't chili. The jalapenos and serranos are tangy enough, but it's them habaneros that sneak up on you and make you "glow". ;) :D

I was looking for reports of Sasquatch in Oklahoma the other night and came across an interesting report of one being spotted just north of us in Catoosa in 2002. :D

Actually there have been lots of sightings here in the state and especially in the wild and what passes for the mountainous part down in the southeastern part of the state in the Ouachita Mountains. Look under LeFlore County if'en you're interested. :D
