I saw two beautiful knives this weekend at the Cal Expo gun show. One was a damascus Kukri that was about 16" long, medium profile blade 'bout like a BAS, and a gold bolster w/horn handle. Sadly, the spine and flats of the blade had at some point been dented up from goodness knows what, the bolster had come loose, and worms had got to the handle. I thought to myself "Of all the kukris that had to be abused by some ignorant person, why this one!?" It was obvious by it's quality (what it must have cost) that the original owner wouldn't treat it like this :grumpy: Unfortunately for me the person who had it now knew that it was rare and it would have cost me more than I could part with.
The second knife was a drop dead gorgeous barung in truly mint condition. It was about 18-20" OAL with a pattern welded blade like none I've seen on an old blade. It looked like a feather for lack of a better description. The handle was very nicely figured wood with both reppouse (sic?) and braided wire silver work. The sides of the blade had the shallowest of fullers ~ full width of blade minus 3/8" for convex edge bevel. The fuller looks like what you would get if you ground with at least a 30" wheel, don't know how they did it. I asked the seller about the age, he placed it at mid 1800. The $1000 price tag put it waaaaaaay out of my range though
Damn I need to win the lottery
