!Managed to get out in the canoe again.Same location as last post.Easy for me to put in and have a quick paddle Not to far from home.
Fall finds these animals pretty active,Fixing dams if any, adding layers to the home lodge to keep the lodge interior warm and most important to them stockpiliing a feed pile. The feedpile is anchored on the bottom and close to the lodge. They do not hibernate but do go inactive during winter. They will swim out to the feedpile snip off some stored food and go back to the lodge to eat
Heres the lodge

Libby wants to have a go around with one real bad.The beaver swam back and forth in front of the shore watching the dog. This enabled me to get pretty close.
There initially were 2 swimming around. The other left to chase 2 other beaver that had appeared swimming down the lake. The one that left forced the 2 to cross the lake. You can see a faint wake line behind the close beaver in the photo

They sure were interested in each other. You can see the tops of the feedpile sticking out of the water

Beautiful scenery, thanks for sharing. I love being out on still waters like that, I so need a canoe!

Thanks All
IA Woodsman the canoe is an old Chestnut from the 60's that has been restored. 16 feet beautiful paddler solo or double
The Ancient foe is correct.and even todays foe its amazing to see the amount of beaver hair in the wolf scat around here. They eat quite a few of them!

Thanks for the pics.... they bring back memories of my Boundary Water trips. I get a kick out of it when one of them gets alarmed/angry enough to do a tail slap! Scares the heck out of you if you aren't ready for one.

You ain't kidding. Lots of Beavers around home. I think they enjoy scaring us.
At home we also have a local herd of elk. When you're out on the water on a foggy, silent morning and an elk starts bugling that will really make the hair stand up.
