The way I look at it is like this,
Dave Beck was one of the original makers of this design. He took the original Medicine Blade and refined that into what was known as the Tracker, he then evolved/tweaked the design even more into what it is today, the WSK. All the tweaking came from feedback that was from customers that had used this design all over the world, in every environment on the planet.
How can you go wrong with all that experience?
The Linger version looks really good, but just from the pictures it appears to not have the forward angle of the blade necessary to keep that hatchet edge on target COMFORTABLY. (Although, I could be wrong.)
The tapered tang also aids in this. I have never handled one so I dont know.
That angle is essential, or the knife will not feel right.
This was explained to me by Dave Beck. So know that I am not pulling this out of my a$$.
Its a very complex design, I believe not a beginners knife. It takes skill to use and skill to keep all the edges and angles sharp. And REAL skill to make.
That is also why I would not one in D2 or some new super stainless. Those are harder steels to maintain. With the complex grinds, it would be a real beast to sharpen.
But I do know that Myakka seems to really like his Linger version so I wont comment further on it as I have no first hand experience.
I do think Mr. Linger makes what look to be FANTASTIC bush knives.
