Becker 1095 Steel?

Holds up excellent. I've batonned with my BK9 several times, and it still shaves the hair off my arm.

Ka-Bar Beckers are made with 1095 Cro-Van, which is a lot like regular 1095 but has a bit of chromium and vanadium added to it. This helps with the HT process (ensures it hardens fully and properly), helps it maintain a fine grain structure, and improves edge-holding without sacrificing toughness.

My recommendation is that you buy one to try it for yourself ;) Get an 11 or 14 to test it out on (they generally sell retail for $35-$48). If you dislike it after use offer it for sale to anybody in this particular section of BF and I guarantee you that somebody will buy it (for a fair price).

If you end up loving it, just look though the BK&T forum here on how to modify it to make it work even better for you. Then purchase a BK9 because you can't not have a 9.

1095 is one of my favorite steels. I've NEVER broken a 1095 blade, and the edge quality & edge retention are very good.

It has very good edge retention and is extremely strong.
I recommend picking up a Becker and trying it out for yourself, I promise you won't be disappointed.
Look up the countless videos of people using the Becker series as the workhorses they are yet are still able to slice through paper thinly even after heavy batoning and chopping.

Also this, buy a BK9, I have yet to find some one to give a solid reason not to own one besides laws.
Fishing? BK9
Splitting wood? BK9
Cooking? BK9
Picking at your teeth? BK9(DO NOT ATTEMPT)
Need to shave? BK9
Fighting Bears? BK9

I absolutely love mine and will defend it and recommend everyone even if they're not looking to buy a knife to get a BK9.

In my experience the 1095cv used by kabar/Becker is outstanding. It has excellent edge retention and the entire range of knives excel at their intended purpose due to design and blade steel. The heat treat is top notch. As how it compares to other 1095 steels used such as ontario, esse and tops for example I would pick the 1095cv hands down. The closest would be esse due to the fact that rowen does a sick job on the HT. I have managed to bend my tops anaconda while batoning black spruce. I also tried it with my bk9 and t didn't suffer any issues. Black spruce is not a hardwood but is very twisty which makes trying to split it a pain in butt. As for the ontario 1095 it is good but just not on par with the Kabar offering.

Buy it and try it... You'll be happy

1095CV sounds a lot like Carbon V a.k.a. 0170-6 -- an excellent steel by all accounts, given proper heat treat.

It's a little like unobtainium tempered in the fires of hell. Only better ;)
