A little demo of beef jerky making. What Becker is that?

I used to make jerky several years ago. I need to break the dehydrator out again.

Great vid. I've been heavily contemplating trying my hand at making jerky since I got Trade's delicious delivery but not sure I want to spring for a dehydrator. I'm sure the dehydrator is the best way to do it, but I've also read you can set your oven to 70 degrees F, load the meat on a drying rack, and prop the door of the oven open with a crushed beer can to allow moisture to escape and let it go for 6 or so hours or until it seems ready. If I try that technique out I'll put a thread.

I've got an electric dehydrator and it makes great jerky. One thing I did notice is that if you want to do it indoors it tends to produce a lot of salty, beef jerky scent infused air:D. The ex-gf was not impressed at the time. I ended up putting the dehydrator in the downstairs bathroom with the fan running. That worked well and the jerky turned out good:thumbup:

Hmmmm.....Tacklef#*k jerky company has competition.....

Looks delicious Doc. Thanks for posting that. Love jerky.

Looks like a BK5 to me, from what I can see. That is exactly what I use my 5 for, and it works great. The last batch I made was 30 pounds of meat, and my hand didn't get sore after cutting all that. I've tried different meat slicers and have never been satisfied with the results or the durability of the machine. Some day I may buy a full size deli quality meat slicer like a Hobart of something. But a heavy meat slicer cost alot more than a BK5 for now.

Your BK5 is a little more magical than mine... try as I might (no matter how sharp it is), I can't get it to un-slice meat like that... maybe I need to strip mine?? :)

Nice Vid!! Ive never made my own but always wanted to try it.

Maybe I'll sping for a dehydrator after my next BK purchase :D

Just wondering how jerky made in a dehydrator compares to smoked jerky done in an electric smoker (like a Bradley or Big Chief)?

I don't have an answer to that question. I've only ever made jerky in a dehydrator.

Remember folks, a dehydrator will do more than just make jerky. You can dehydrate vegies to add to ramen noodles, dehydrate sauces to be useable with boiling water, etc. You can literally make your own 'mountain house' style backpacking meals. I've been doing that for some time.

I prefer the electric smoker (or an oven--works just as well), but my wife banned me from doing it in the house due to the smell. So, its electric and out in the workroom...
