I was just curious if anyone happened to have both a BK-16 and an Esee 4 with the TKC scales on them. I would be curious to know how they compared to each other. This is not meant to start a riot. I understand there is a huge price difference and I think the FFG would be a better cutter. I’m more thinking how they both feel in the hand / size / weight.

A lot of ESEE fans around here. I'm sure someone can help you. I want a junglas someday but plan to buy all the Beckers first.

I love the Junglas. I named mine Jung-glass so I don't sound like an idiot mispronouncing the name. It's what I bring on the trail clearing days at the state park. I ended up turning the scales dark purple. (thanks Rit dye; ocean blue my a$$) I'm not sure how it compares to the 9 but I doubt you would be unhappy with it.

Here you go SMH, sorry about the phone pics. I'd like to point out that my 16 is different from the Reg. Production because of the coating, roll stamp, and most importantly: grind. So I will not really touch on those features. Also while I have used my ESEE 4, I do not play with my 16 so I will not touch on how they compare in use either. Pics:

As you can see they are very similiar in length, if you'd like to know the exact measurments there are many places to find them starting in our forum stickies. The ESEE 4 has a little more heft to it and is a little thicker (sorry, forgot to take a spine shot). The regular 16 will be flat ground which I imagine will shave even a little more weight off of it. Getting micarta stock on the ESEE 4 is nice, but really you ARE paying for it. I still give the ergos to the 16 by far, it is one of the most comfortable knives I have ever held. As far as sheaths, there are great things about both. I love the kydex on the ESEE, and I LOVE how modular it is, however as a ready to go, working system the BK16 sheath is very impressive and it is really nice to have that front pocket already included on the BK sheath (any hardcore ESEE dudes that see how my sheath is set up, yeah, it's probably wrong, but it works for me). I believe edge retention/steel quality in general is a little higher on the ESEE, not a steel geek myself so can't say for certain but I love all of my 1095CV BKs and have no problems with them so it kind of like, how many alligators are you going to be skinning per day anyways? Both will do their job well.

Not going to declare a winner, would be unfair as I have not gotten to put a BK16 through the paces. Both have awesome things about them.

This is something I put in another thread for someone.

Can't go wrong with either one---BUT, this is BeckerLand, and as such---I say go with the BK16 ! :D

Wow thanks Rouge. It almost looks like they would be the same knife if you put the TKC scales on the 4. (minus the choil) Both really good looking knives.

I have had a ESEE3&4 but I like my BK2 much more! I recently ordered the ESEE & Ka-Bar BK14 so hopefully it is great! The ESEE knives were great but they were just a little small for what I needed. I also wasn't a big fan of their handles, just didn't fit my hand very well.

aside from the handles they look like twins. I think both need aggressive stipling for ultimate hacking/stabbing grip, lighter use no make difference.

I love the Junglas. I named mine Jung-glass so I don't sound like an idiot mispronouncing the name. It's what I bring on the trail clearing days at the state park. took my junglas out yesterday and now it has teeth from accidental rock bashing :( it's no machete nor an axe. still waiting on my Machax - ETA tomorrow! not going to like destroying that either (unless absolutely neccessary) so I think I'm going to just stick to cheap machetes if there's any possibility of rocks. so far I have to pound this condor tip back to straight with a hammer and resharpen every day.

I'd NEVER buy any set of scales and probabaly not a sheath either, I just make them myself. But as for the ESEE-4 vs. the BK-16? I think they'd be virtually the same, same (very simmilar) steel, same grind, cimmilar coating and if you are using the contoured TKC handles. Long story short: ESEEs are kinda like Beckers that are already outfitted with aftermarket accessories. Which is no fun for me so it looks like I'll never be getting an ESEE.
