I saw this pic of Brizillian(? I think?) Bayonet and the large one makes the think of the BK9.

It seems like a great little project if Ethan had interest, we know that millitary knives are for utility (read abusing) more than anything and this design as well as the more recent US Bayonets reflect this.

The brizillain model is doing great in the way of a wide blade but I'd like to see some Becker full width tangness backing up all that brute strength to make it the unstoppable work horse a functional bayonet should be rather than those old designs reflective the M3 fighting knife.

A BK7 without ramp and bayonet guard/butt could be the ultimate, I guard could be attached without compromising the strength of the tang easily by rounding out the area it would attach to on the tang, similar to Spanish notches and a round metal guard instead of flat metal fitting into it, round metal like that of a heavy chain link.

Of course it was a marine to do it.. lol

That's one lusty piece of steel and inspired along the same lines, by "recent bayonets" I was referring to the Ontario bayonet.

The question is does Uncle E have any desire to design such a creation?

Thanks! Ethan has shared his thoughts on bayonets and basically it should be a spike style. I'm sure he'll come in here later. Ka-Bar would prefer to do a straight Ka-Bar traditional bayonet. They've been dealing with the military for a long time and it would only be fitting. As an infantryman, the chances of my knife being used hand to hand were slim, but probably still better than the chances of me ever having to fix bayonets for a charge. The Marine Corps still pushes bayonet training hard. Still, the knife has more use as a general utility blade, that's why we chose BK&T as our project knife.

Oh yes, The Beckanet. That was a cool project, been a while since I looked at that thread, Damn, my shop was clean then. Murph had a fantastic idea on that one in my opinion. It was a fun project, and Ethan really liked it when he saw it first hand at the first gathering that I attended. But if my memory serves me correctly, Ka-Bars intrest in bayonets didnt include including Ethan, (if that makes sense)

Personally I hate the M9 bayonet. I still carry a M7 when I deploy. The only good features on the M9 is the wire cutter and the fact that some have a sharpening stone on the back side of the sheath. The M7 (in my opinion) is perfect for what it is designed to do....cause grevious wounds to soft targets (Thin, double edged blade that excels in piercing flesh (only takes two inches of penetration to cause death-when properly placed, as opposed to slashing) and does nothing else well).

Yes, its great for what it was designed for.

The question is how many times have you had to use it to cause greivious wounds to soft targets?

Saw a custom military type knife a few minutes ago that is designed excellent for its intended purpose, with a $1500 price tag.

For the odds that it would ever really need to be used, my life is not worth that much me over any other knife that would get the job done as well.

there's a Camillus bayonet dead-ended project with the Becker name vaguely slapped on it. eh.

i've contemplated a bayonet mount, such that it mounts to your gun the way you want... and has a flange with three holes to fit ANY Becker big blade.

bonus if it's a double flange so the knife slips in and the side have a bit of retention as well - less stress on the bolt hardware

bonus bonus if one side of the flange is threaded, so you don't need the nuts. perhaps you only need two bolts. maybe even 1! it could even be quick release.

in field easy to take the knife out, and put slabs back on.

best made from stainless too. would look really purty with a BK77 :D or a BK5 ;) or a BK4 ;)
