Hello i'm new to this forum & knives in general.

I was hoping to get advice / recommendation on which knife I should get, between the Becker BK-7 and the ESEE-6. I will take it with me on park / trail walks and for my emergency go bag.

I own both and prefer the ESEE 6. Both are great knives but I feel Rowen does a great job with their 1095. I also prefer the micarta handles over the grivory on the Becker. The BK-7 is a great value.

I'd go with the bk7, more comfortable in the hand and a whole lot cheaper, and if the handle immaterial bothers you then kabar makes micarta replacements, and price wise it will still be about the same as the esee

I feel like the ESEE-6 is the right choice for me, I will look out for a good deal online. Thank you guys!

+1

I love my BK-7 for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is the handle. However, if you have your heart set on an ESEE 6, then go for it. Once you have it, head for the woods and run it through its paces. If it works for you, then you have a keeper. If you really don't like how it feels or handles, and you don't want to keep it, then it will be easy enough to sell.

My point is that they're both great knives; however, you won't truly know if one will work for you until you field test it, so pick the one you like and go from there.

I'm very picky in the the look of my 1st knife, so i'd spend enough for two BK-7's to get the effect of one ESEE ^_^

Out of those 2 knives I would recommend the esee, no contest. If you had the 2 sitting on a table in front of you, you would agree. Esees cost more, but they're worth the extra cost.

I have the ESEE 6 and several other Beckers. No complaints about any of them. Good solid performers. All of these knives feel good in a large hand. If you have smaller hands the Becker BK-16 is a good one also. Actually the BK-16 is probably a more practical size for game processing etc.

You can't go wrong with either. I like the feel of the Becker over the Esee. That being said, try both and get whichever you prefer.

You sure you want to carry this big of a knife on "park hikes"? I believe you are not even allowed to cut anything in most parks. So, what are you going to use it for?

I have a BK-7.

I have an ESEE 4. I prefer the BK-16 or BK-17. If you want a practical "looker", you might take a look at Bark River Knives at places like Knifes Ship Free. They have a great selection.

I live next to a fairly big park, about 575 acres and when I walk around there is no patrol watching because "California is broke" ^_^
There are some nice groves in the park also.

It doesn't matter if there is a patrol or not. Rules are rules.

Added: I am not trying to be snooty about cutting things in parks, I know that I cut things inside park boundaries but they are small things that nobody would likely ever notice. For example, I take pictures of wild plants and wild flowers and sometimes I do a little trimming around the plant to get a better photograph. But I don't build shelters, even fires, or treat a park like I own the place. I have been known to cut a branch or three along trails as a trail maintenance item. But I view this as something a park employee might do anyway if given the directive.
