I am cross between purchasing the Becker Bk7 or The SOG creed for a Hard use survival knife.

Don't have the SOG, but do have the BK-7. It's a good knife for the money which is the strong point for the KaBar Beckers. Many people say that the SOGs are over priced (and I don't have a strong opinion there), but I find them to be good knives overall. I have a Northwest Ranger which might be used for a similar purpose. It is the old model with the partial serrated blade. It is the knife that convinced me that I didn't like partially serrated fixed blades.

Bk7 for sure. Great knife and love the feel and weight of it in my hand. Thinking about getting a kydex sheath made for it

Take a look at the bk9, only 2 inches longer but more forward weight so it helps with chopping and batoning. One of the good things is that it still feels small enough in hand for detail work and feather sticks while the length allows it to also work well as a draw knife.

Either way the Becker is the way to go. I have a few SOGs and I'm not overly impressed...

BECKER!! Don't even think anymore just go buy it I don't have the 7 but I have a 9, 11, 2, and newly acquired 16 that I just sharpened to the point where I could shave my whole arm!! Do it now!!!

Let the landslide continue. Becker.

And its half the price of the SOG creed which means you can buy a skinner (according to your other post) or buy something else!

I'm going to get on the bandwagon and say Becker.

1- MUCH better price for what you're getting (like most SOG products, in my opinion, the Creed is overpriced for what you get).

2-Proven performance. Lot's of folks have been using Beckers for a while with good results.

3-Good materials and geometry for the intended use. I prefer the flat ground Beckers to hollow ground SOGs, blade thickness is just right (enough for strength, not too much to be useless as cutting tools) and the 1095CroVan used by Ka-Bar is quite good (for this kind of knife, I like it more than AUS8).

4- Better ergonomics. While this can be a very personal thing, the handle on a Becker is easy to modify to better suit the user's hands.

+1 for Becker. You can pay far more for a fixed blade, but you won't get much in return. Hands-down the best value for a hard-use fixed blade.

I've had both, and I'll agree with everyone else the the BK7 is the better knife. I tried to use the Creed I had as a woods knife and it just wasn't comfortable or effective for the task

Becker without a doubt. The steel is far superior in terms of durability and edge retention.
