A friend of mine has one .Got to use it and loved it. That being said did a little searching and found out it was discontinued. Tried looking for it on the web and well cant seem to find it, also dont want to get into a bidding war on stealbay. So what else is out there similar to the Becker in style, weight, metel ,blade shape, price etc, etc, etc.

Have seen the RAT line but, there a little to pricey for me right now any thoughts on Ka bar bowies?

People are generally fans of Ka-Bar. What is your price limit? If it's around $50, then I think Ka-Bar or Ontario Spec Plus is the way to go.

Edit: I'd suggest Ranger RD7, but if the Ontario RAT series is out of your price range, then this would be, too.

There are still some beckers on ebay and I don't see the price going overboard.
ontario RAT worth the money, But the Ontario spec pluss are a bargain.
the Ontario SP5 for under $50.00 thats a ten inch blade of 1095 steel, great knife.
Ka-bar heavy bowie #1277 I picked this one up for less than $50.00 it's my favorite big bowie. This one has a nine inch blade of 1095, 1/4" thick flat ground, came razor sharp. There's a destruction test by noss4 I saw a link to here. This is a tough knife. I have done some tameshigiri,(test cutting with rolled tatami mats) and this blade will cut on equal with my wakizashi.

The BK-77 (Basically the BK7 but made with S30V and Micarata handles) is available if you want to spend some extra cash. http://www.ridgeknifeshop.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=22&osCsid=9155b9ffb09a6791f90abe3b7f269926

I also second the RD7 or RD9 from Justin at Ranger Knives. Justin would take good care of you and can even customize the blaed for you for a reasonable price (mine has a Satin finish and Blue G10 handles :D ).

I also just found the Fox Golok for a very good price (finally, I had been searching for awhile - ever since it was featured in Tactical Knives almost a year ago). Bill at MichiganKnives is also great to deal with.

Look at the Ontario Spec Plus SP19.

It's a great knife, and very similar to the Becker BK7 in many ways.

I was looking for a replacement for my BK7 and picked up several of the
Ontario knives recently. They're all great value.

The SP19, though, is very similar in size and weight to the BK7.
Mine came shaving sharp right out of the box as well.

Made in the USA, BTW.

And sure, if you want to lay out the bucks, the Ontario RAT 7, Ranger, and
Swamp Rat are definitely great knives.

Ka bar bowie is fine. But it's made taiwan, so if you want a us made knife it will not work. Made to take a beating, 1080 steel is good, but I would like to see 1070 or 1050, to allow a tougher blade for chopping, and prying.

SKY.A if your still interested in a BK 7 email me and I 'll give you some info on one ;)

Reply to knifeFury.
These FOX knives look very good. Their homepage also speaks class. The collection other than tactical is ambitious and beautiful. I have to have one.

Kinda like the kabar heavy bowie probaly go for the shorter 12 inch version. Are there any differences other then size to its bigger brother? As ive looked at the kabar site they seem to be built of the same stuff.Did a search on this site and found that most folks that have the kabar bowie own the 14in version .Any particulary reason? Is the 12inch not as tough as its bigger bro?

14" will give a better ability for chopping, though it laks for smaller tasks. The 7" blade will do everything but not so well. But if you wanted a 7" knife, go for it.

Ridge knife shop also has a normal bk7 on on the bay and he is one of the fastest shippers there. Great company to do business with.
