Becker bk12 scales thicker?

I don't have any other full size becker to compare this to so I'll just ask the question. Is the becker bk12 doug ritter model have thicker scales than the regular becker lineup? It just feels thick for some reason.
 
Yes they are thicker. Feel quite a bit different and the material is different as well. Bk12 has an old batch of handles left over from when Cam made Beckers.

Thanks. I'll either trade them out or start grinding it down to fit my hands better.
 
They're not thicker by much, and by my (possibly inaccurate) measuring, are thicker than the current KaBar made Beckers and slightly thinner than the ones from my Cam 2. The Cam 2 steel isn't the ¼" of the new KB manu'd 2's, but that Cam 2, which is pretty close to the Rowen made 12 in thickness, still fills the hand significantly more (in my homemade comparison, YMMV). I don't have real big hands and while I was afraid the 12 grips would be too big for me, they turned out to be pretty OK. Course, doesn't matter now, as I have a set of Micarta grips on there and they are the bomb.. If you have the cash, I'd suggest trading them for the Micarta.
