Becker BK2 Blade Blank

I won an auction for a BK2 Campanion blade blank. I had sold a BK2 a while ago and was having seller's remorse. I figured that I might have someone with the requisite skill finish this blade as a custom knife like some I've seen posted here. I may try my hand at making the handles but I don't have the skill to put a final edge on it.
I probably paid too much for it, but it is a hunk of hardened 0170-6 carbon steel and who knows what will be available in the future.

That ought to make an interesting project - I bought a bunch of the old Camillus blanks from SMKW, and I'm going to start working on them in the fall. Like you, I can take care of the handles, but I'll have to send them out to have the edges done. They'll be good candidates for convex edges.

Good luck with your, and post the results.

What are you planning for the handles? On the Buck part of the forum there are a couple of projects to rehandle knives that you may want to look at.

I haven't decided what to use for the handle, I was thinking green micarta scales would look nice. I have a Dremel Moto-Tool and was wondering if that would be able to handle the job of shaping micarta.
Members have posted photos of BK2's with polished blades and wood scales that looked very nice and I may look around for some suitable wood or wood laminate to work with.

I just found these too. I'm not sure what too much $ means but I probablly paid too much too. I guess if my wife finds out it will be too much.

I have a set of blank grips cut out of 1/4" G10 that I started for a BK7 but now may put them on the blank. I might also go for some wood and shape them. I once saw a really nice Companion on here that I would like to reproduce. It was over in the Wilderness survival forum. I guess it's time to re-up my membership so i can search again.

Anyone know where these are coming from other than E-bay. I would like another but not at that price.

Watching the auctions on both the Becker blades and the Fitch bowie blades, would love to launch a new project and try to finish one but my skills of hand finishing are sorely lacking.:(

I just got my BK 9 blan today. I payed $25.00 for the blank which is heat tempered but not sharped or protective coated. Keep me i the loop since I am at the same stage as you guys. I am thinking Micarta grips as well like my Tops Tracker but I think I want to do the blade in dark or olive drab instead of black. I really want this for a field knife since my original Beckers are not coming out to play. Your thoughts, ideas and most of all knife contacts would be appreciated!:D

Not my design but I saw this here once before. I now have two blanks and will be going for something similar.

Again that is not my knife only one that I have seen posted here on BF. I saved the pic for reference.

I have two blanks, I am going to try one with wood handle and leather sheath. Not sure how to finnish the blade, Maybe a gun blue.

The second I'm going Tacti-cool...G10 scales and Kydex.

I just need time in the day to start.

I would like to know also if you know of someone who has a wet grinder that can handle these hardened Becker blanks. I have 4 hardened but unground Becker blanks. I have a wet grinder, but it is old and doesn't have a jig to keep the angle constant. If anyone comes to mind who can grind these, please let me know.

They are impressive pieces of steel! :D
