I am looking for a Becker BK2, Campanion. I saw that BK&T has been swallowed by Ka-Bar. Is Ka-Bar making the BK2 under their name? If so, what are they calling it? If Ka-Bar is making it, is the quality as good as the original? Are there places that still have the original BK2 in stock?
Thanks

The K-Bar Beckers aren't available yet. There's an interview with Mr. Becker that's been posted several times on the forum - sorry, I don't have a link handy. He says they'll start production with some of the old models this fall, and mentioned them by name. Brand new models are to follow later.

If you can find that interview and listen to it, you'll know if the BK2 is scheduled for production.

I doubt you'll find old Becker knives in stock anywhere. eBay is probably your best bet.

Good luck in your quest,
-Bob

I am looking for a Becker BK2, Companion. I saw that BK&T has been swallowed by Ka-Bar. Is Ka-Bar making the BK2 under their name? If so, what are they calling it? If Ka-Bar is making it, is the quality as good as the original? Are there places that still have the original BK2 in stock?

The Companions are long gone and are fetching big numbers when available on ebay. At this point, it would be something of a miracle to find a dealer with stock.

Also, Becker hasn't really been "swallowed" by Ka Bar, although it could look that way.
What happened was that Ethan Becker - who designed the Becker knives which were manufactured by Camillus from its proprietary 0170-6C steel - has agreed to work with Ka Bar.

Ka Bar will be manufacturing the Becker knives but will be using a different steel than the Camillus Beckers. Ethan said in an interview that the Ka Bar Beckers will be made of 1095 Cro-Van which, he said, is very similar to the no-longer-available Camillus 0170-6C.

As Bob W mentioned, the Ka Bar Beckers are not on the market yet.

BTW, it's Campanion, not Companion... I have one of the original Blackjacks in 1095. It's a brute with an edge; you could hammer it through a vault door.

How do you think the Ka-Bar knives will compare to the previous Beckers? I see the Camillus made BK&T knives going for big money now. Is that because people think that they are collectable, or because the Ka-Bar knives are expected to be of poorer quality? I am not a collector, I just use a knife to do a job. I do like well designed, and well conceived, tools though.

In the interview with Ethan Becker, he said that the BK2, BK3, BK7, and BK9 were going to be in the market this September. The sad part of that was I finally decided that it was a BK10 Crewman that came the closest to what I want. Now to look for a BK10 :(

Will I end up paying collector prices for a knife that I'll be using? Is there anything comparable, or better, for $125 or less?

I have a Campanion that was given to me in trade by a military friend. His unit had a stock of the BK-2 serrated knives. Haven't really used it yet and wonder if I should just keep it on a shelf.

Of course they are all over now, Great knife then and now. Kabar builds a tough as hell knife.

If you have a serrated BK-2 Campanion I would put it away and buy a regular BK-2. The serrated version was a military special order, if I remember correctly, so there aren't that many around.
