i cant decide between the two, theyll be for camping/backpacking/survival type stuff. lots of batoning, shelter making and stuff like that. which would be best?

Well I don't agree that the Gerber is garbage but it is going to be more expensive and will be made of "mystery steel". I would agree that the Becker is the hands down winner.

Unless salt water is going to be a frequent obstacle, for that kind of use I would take the nearly indestructable 1/4 thick 1095 BK-2 over the 420 stainless LMF II. If I recall correctly, the LMF II is also not full tang and the handle can snap while batoning if you're not careful. But I do believe the BK-2 is heavier, if that is a concern.

(:edit: Check that; I believe the new LMFII is Sandvic 12c27 stainless.)

nah weights not too much of a concern, i think ill be going with the becker. much thanks

There may be some things that the Gerber is better suited for, but for the uses you mentioned, I am always going to choose the BK-2. Plus the BK-2 is easy to customize to your specific needs, the Gerber...not so much. But thats just me, I really like the Becker knives.

any recommendations on where i can order one that will ship to canada?

I sure there are several, but I believe New Graham ships to Canada.
(No affiliation, just remember someone mentioning it.)

All the way every day.

The LMF is definitely not junk. If I were buying either of those I would go Becker. 1095, good ergos, full tang, and it can be had without serrations.

+1 on the BK2. Not taking anything away from the Gerber. In fact, Gerber makes great knives, but the Beckers are built to be used, and used hard! The BK2 will never let you down!!!
