The BK2 sheath is dulling the blade and completely dulls it within 10 times of removing the knife. Other than the sheath, I have found (to no surprise) that this is a great knife. Has anyone else had this problem and is there a way to fix this? Help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.:)

P.S. I'v had a BK9 for about a year now. I use it in my lawn care business to remove trees, bushes, ect... GREAT KNIFE! Thanks Ethan! Oh yeah...Ethan, I saw your interview with E2E and you are one cool dude.

Yes the BK2 sheath is a problem. There are a few threads about it here in the Becker Forum. How strong is your search fu? :D One that I did, some that others did, some that just showed up mysteriously. Bottom line, there is two options you got, modify that sheath with a file or saw of some kind, or find a maker to make you one. Now, I make custom sheaths, almost exclusively for Becker knives. Leather and Kydex. I prefer leather on mine, others like kydex. Talfuchre also makes some good leather, CRKS and David Marion Proff does some fantastic kydex work. I say get you a good sheath, made of what you like, built to suit your needs, and will last a lifetime. Forget that there was even a sheath that came with the knife. Just my opinion. Moose

I plan to upgrade to a custom sheath for my BK2 as well. Not because my sheath is dulling my blade, but just because I have an affinity for custom leather. JRE Industries is making one for my BK7 (and it's shipping next week), but it's taken nearly six months to get it...yikes. I hope it's worth it!

I was able to mostly fix the problem by sawing and sanding the part of the sheath that touches the edge. It is still a slight issue, but not as long as I carefully draw the blade so that the edge does not touch the sheath. I will probably try to make a sheath some time soon, it will be a fun project. I'll post pics. Thanks Moose.

I found your thread as I was looking for a solution to the same problem on my bk2. I came up with a theory though. After sharpening, I would be able to slice paper to very fine pieces but it seemed that later on, the edge would disappear for no reason. It is unlikely that a good retaining blade like the bk2 could loose its edge because of simply cutting into the plastic sheath, so I began to think that the problem could be due to the way I was sharpening the knife rather than the sheath. Instead of a dragging motion I began to use a slice motion into the stone. That resulted in better edge retention and the problem was drastically minimized. I think I still experience a little of edge reduction but won't be able to know for sure until I take it on the field.

BTW, can a bk2 be sharpened to scary sharp?

Dallas,

WELCOME to the forums.>>>

Yes the 2 or any knife can be made scary hairy sharp.............. just practice/skills............

Glad to see you dug around the archives before making your first post, I'm sure Bladite is just picking himself up from the floor right now:)

Good observation, although I haven't noticed the edge being lost on my BK2, its probably happening I just haven't noticed, maybe I'll take a hacksaw blade to the inside...

As scary sharp as they come. Welcome to the Becker forum, and Blade forums, we are glad you're here.

I like a guide system for my sharpening, some prefer freehand, or a convex edge. Either one you choose will come to a hair raizing edge, with a little practice and experience.

How much do you charge for a leather sheath?

Private message or email is better place to ask a question like that. Buying and selling or trading on the Discussion forums is forbidden and a good way to earn infractions.
