Hi everyone, I'm looking for a fixed robust knife and now I'm juggling between two knifes, SOG Seal Pup Elite and Becker bk2. So I'm asking, which one would be better for camping, hiking and general use?

Thank you

I guess it depends on what your going to do with it. Ive owned both, and both knives are great however i sold my seal pup because i didn't like the handles and i just never really used it.

My bk2 has seen a lot use and is a great tool. It's a great camp knife and if you don't mind the weight (i personally don't, but others do) it's a good hiking knife as well.

Hope this helps...

I say for general camping the BK-2 would be best. The SOG was designed with cutting things in mind and wasn't really intended to be used as an axe. If you're intending on smacking it through a log with a stick, go with the BK-2, as it was designed with hard use in mind.

I have both.

The Seal Pup is a weighs nothing, great little field knife for hiking, camping, edc, what have you...

the BK2 is heavier, much more stout and has the heft of a knife that you would really rely on in a tough spot.

I really like both knives, the comparisons from one to the other imo are just weight and blade length, the Pup carries like a smaller knife. The BK2 carries and does what alot of bigger knives do, batoning, chopping etc.

i have the seal pup elite. i like it a lot. featherweight light. you nearly forget that you even have the knife on you. its an excellent cutter and relatively strong

the bk2, from what i understand, is an absolute beast. its going to have a longer and thicker blade. its relatively stout. so you will no you have it on you, but it will chop better and will take more abuse.

both are great, just pick the one that better suits you

The Seal is not a bad knife, I'd choose it for military, fighting, stabbing, etc..
The BK2 is THE camp knife.
I'd be afraid of breaking the tip of the SEAL, with continued beatings.

If u like the seal pup elite i have a NIB one in the trade classifieds. i love them but have a couple so getting ride of one. Has been very reliable for me.

Thanks for the answers everyone, I'm leaning toward the BK2, but I'm little concerned abouth the width of the blade. I'm a bit worried that it would be hard to carve or do other finer work with it? How wide are these two knives?

You can do fine stuff with the BK-2 (finer if you are more talented than I am - shouldn't be hard :D ).

I prefer to have more than one knife like a BK-2 for the hard jobs and a Mora for carving or other finer work and a SAK for opening cans and bottles and other multi-tool type tasks. You can take a Mora #1 camping or hiking for about 2oz of carry weight so it isn't like multiple knives mean you are lugging a huge amount of extra weight.

The Becker BK-2 (or BK-7 or BK-9) can handle the hard use knife tasks that you don't really want to use a Mora or SAK for - you know you aren't going to break a Becker just because you use a lump of wood to beat it through another lump of wood.

What's wrong with getting both? I own both of these and wouldn't trade the bk2 for anything. But I recieved the seal pup for christmas and I like it. It weighs nothing compared to the becker.

Although, the becker is definitly indestructable. I shall use more care with the Sog.

Get both, keep the becker in your pack. problem solved.
