I'm thinking bout gettin the bk39. Anybody know how the finish will hold up as opposed to the black coating on the bk9

The coating is the same coating, but without the dye (from what I hear). It is also smoother (also from what I hear, I don't have one, nor have I held one).

So I'd expect the coating to be more or less just as durable as the black coating, with the fact that it might LOOK like its more durable because it won't be as noticeable when it wears off as the black coating. IMO the main reason to get a BK39 is if you want green scales. The coatings will likely wear off eventually as you use it (takes a while, but usually happens with enough use), which would make the BK9 and the BK39 the same other than the handle scales.

Trade is the only one I know who has a 'green' one - 32 or 39 I don't recall.

I'd imagine it'd get scratchy and opaque as it is used. (Think plastic headlight cover in sand storm or plexiglass widow at dog pound.)

I agree ! With enough use I'll probably end up stripping it anyway. Thanks

That's what I was kinda thinking. Wanted ta see some pics but I guess I'll have ta buy it and do some before & after myself. I can always strip it. I don't care for the billboard logo but I can live with it. I wonder if it's stamped or laser etched. I've never held one

Its laser engraved/etched, which means its not a very deep logo.

I'd imagine its like the other laser engraved Beckers, in that if you DON'T etch it deeper, and then strip it, it might be easy to loose the engraving by sanding a bit.

If your Becker's blade coating lasts past the first use you aren't doing it right. :P
