Here it is, the BK5 after some love.

The micarta scales are very nice and now that I tried them I don't care for the grivory. I also made some white liners from color-core formica that I had in the workshop. I might change the liners, don't know yet. If you have a color recommendation I'm all ears!

I stripped the blade using citrus strip (24 hr dip) and the black paint came off very easy. The patina recipe is a mix of ketchup, fresh tangerine juice and pasta sause. That's all the acidic ingredients I had in the house so I mixed up a batch and splashed onto the blade. I then wrapped it in a paper towel and baked for about 20 minutes at 200 deg. It looks a darker in the photos but after oiling it the steel has a light honey color to it. It turned out OK for my first DIY patina. When my BK17 comes I plan to do it as well.

Next I need to work on a sheath!

Now that, is some old world charm right there.

Very well done, a fine example of a BKT knife and what the owner can do, to make it their own.

Not another one like it.

That's a nice, dark patina. I haven't seen anyone bake their patina on before. Interesting.

Thanks guys. I forgot to mention that I made the tang flush at the rear. It just didn't look elegant with the ass sticking out!

That statement doesn't work on most of the women I know.

Funny how things work.

Very nice. I prefer the dark patinas on my own knives as well.

That little bit of pattern turned out cool too.

Nice work. Different than any I've seen. I actually think this blade looks better without the pommel too.

the original had no pommel and worked well for multiple generations

adding the pommel basically made all the knives part of a familly...

some of the chopper might chop better with some lightening... mmm!

Thats cool. I like how everythings not the same color to give it some contrast...now lets see your 17!

Very nice! I thnk this knife looks best without the face breaker on the bottom.
Very elegent!

That turned out great. It looks like a proper frontier knife!

very nice customizing work! great overall package.

dang, I can't resist anymore...I must haves me a BK5 soooooooon.

Might have to try that patina method on my BK9. Has a nicely antiquated look from the photos. Well done.
