So, I'm working on grinding a BK6 blank for tman. Fortunately, it was already heat treated. Here's that shot of the blank next to the bush sword I'm working on also:
I started the grind with a ceramic belt on low speed. I sketched the grind lines on first, and then set the plunge. I also used a drill bit to scribe the centerline. I had to dip the blade in water after each pass, and did it without gloves so as to avoid damaging the heat treat. That gets harder as the blade gets thinner, obviously. Here's what it looks like after the main grind gets finished.
Next I did some hand sanding to clean up the grind. This is with 120 grit.
After that, I cleaned it up a bit more on the machine, and then hand sanded to 800 grit. I'm not quite sure what finish tman wants, and in any case, I'll clean it up more after I make the handle scales. Here's what it looks like so far after some hand sanding. I haven't put an edge on yet.
The handle scales will be bocote, as requested.
