So, I'm working on grinding a BK6 blank for tman. Fortunately, it was already heat treated. Here's that shot of the blank next to the bush sword I'm working on also:

I started the grind with a ceramic belt on low speed. I sketched the grind lines on first, and then set the plunge. I also used a drill bit to scribe the centerline. I had to dip the blade in water after each pass, and did it without gloves so as to avoid damaging the heat treat. That gets harder as the blade gets thinner, obviously. Here's what it looks like after the main grind gets finished.

Next I did some hand sanding to clean up the grind. This is with 120 grit.

After that, I cleaned it up a bit more on the machine, and then hand sanded to 800 grit. I'm not quite sure what finish tman wants, and in any case, I'll clean it up more after I make the handle scales. Here's what it looks like so far after some hand sanding. I haven't put an edge on yet.

The handle scales will be bocote, as requested.

They're showing up for me; don't see any issues with the img coding. I'll clear my cache and cookies and see if they go away.

That looks great man, I can't wait to see what she looks like once you get the handle scales on.

Looks good. I was checking out this thread on my little Android player last night, and couldn't really tell what it looked like. Looking really good brother.

So, today I made up some scales, and did more polishing. Fortunately for the project, I also thought to recheck the hardness. While it was far too hard for a file to grip, it's NOT hard enough to be a knife. This one seems to have been poorly heat treated or something. So I have to figure out whether Peters can redo the HT or not, which means I also need to be sure what kind of steel we're dealing with. I could use some help on that. I've got 2 blanks, one Camillus, and the other without Camillus markings. I'm hoping Bladite can chime in and let me know what type of steel it is, if it only has a BK&T marking on it? I'm assuming 1095, but I don't actually know. The Camillus one is a lot harder, but still seems to be soft enough for the edge to roll a bit. I'm not confident in either, and won't be letting either leave my shop until I know that it's actually good enough to chop with.

Anyways, here's what it looks like so far (along with the sword I've been working on)

tman sent a machete sheath over for it, which fits it fine, although it's a little long, and doesn't have much in the way of retention. The other blank is payment for the work. I'll be making leather for that one, at some point, tooled and molded, like this sheath I made for one of my customer's gladius (he seems to have liked it, as he was the source of the generous gift of an RBK I noted earlier in the snark thread).

scales look great... that leather is pretty sweet too. I'm sure your 6 will be amazing. I appreciate the work you are doing. Nahh, i don't think he liked te Gladius at all.. he probably just wanted to get rid of that sorry excuse for a knife... whats it called again? an RB..what?? :D awesome work man!

Cool. Good to see one (or two!) of those blanks are being brought to life. Nice scales. Can't wait to the finished product. That BK-Sword is badass as well.

Thanks fellas. Mauser, when you gonna come by and make a knife and pick up your prize?

Also, would you guys be interested in playing with the bush sword at the gathering?
