I'm getting the Becker BK7 and I was wondering how prone to corrosion the blade is. When the epoxy coat comes off, will the blade be very sensitive? I would maintain it well and wouldn't use it in conditions that could accellerate oxidation.

Also, I plan on trying to add texture to the handles. If I screw up do you think Camillus would supply new handles relatively cheap?

Thanks

It takes a lot of beating to remove the coating on a Becker. I chopped and battoned with mine for a year and the coating just smoothed out a little. It had receded a bit from the edge but otherwise was intact. The blade did get rust spots if I put it away wet and forgot to oil it. But for comparisons sake, probably less prone to this than my CS SRK. As far as I know Camillius do supply spare handles now. Although use the blade for a while before deciding to roughen them up. They are actually quite well designed.

Thanks, Ming! I hope I wouldn't see any rust as I'm very careful about that and would make sure to rinse and dry it after every use, I was just worried about moisture being trapped under peeling epoxy coating.

Of course you could wait for the Becker Extreme knives to be made of S30V stainless steel. See the Camillus Manufacturers forum

I remember a thread in the Camillus forum a while back that said they were selling just the handles for people that wanted to experiment with them. I don't remember the price for sure but it was very reasonable.
