Becker BK7 Sheath Pouch Mod - Suggestions/Comments/Constructive Criticism welcome

Hello friends,

I have been working on my BK7 sheath trying to make it an all out survival kit. I found that an Altoids tin in the pouch on the sheath would not fit everything I wanted.

This is when I remembered that I had an old sling backpack that had a pouch on the sling. I had already cannibalized the backpack for buckles, and anything else I thought I might have a use for.

Cannibalized Sling Backpack:

The pouch that came on the backpack was like it was made for the BK7 sheath. Same color, perfect width and length, etc. Until I find a better method (hopefully from your suggestions,) I have attached the pouch using one piece of black 550. The 550 is thread through the sheath eyelets, then through the cross-piece of nylon that attached the pouch to the sling, then finally wrapped around the pouch and sheath. This method works well, and keeps the pouch in place when the pouch is filled, but when emptied, the pouch doesn't stay in place. Take a look at the pictures:

The Altoids Tin that I have in the BK7 sheath pouch includes First Aid materials, A small sewing kit, and fishing line (still working on the contents of the tin). My plan is to include everything else I may need in the pouch that I added. I don't own everything yet, so I have temporarily filled the pouch with the following:

Contents:

From Left to Right: Multi-Size Allen Wrench tool, Lansky Multi-Sharpener, a small container filled with mineral oil, flint and striker, Smiths PP1 Sharpener (probably going to leave out, hasn't worked well for me,) small Bic lighter, ~1 yard of Aluminum Foil, Duct tape.

The contents really are just what I have lying around. I am going to work on my Tin kit and the contents of this pouch as I pick up more stuff that I may need.

Thanks for looking

They are working from every computer/Internet device in my house. I will read your tutorial and redo them though if you're not seeing them

Yeah, thank you for reworking the links. Very nicely done! Thanks for the pictures and the inspiration.

Not a problem! Glad they are showing.

My mission is to figure out the most secure way of attaching the pouch, and deciding on/purchasing exactly what I want for both the pouch and the altoids tin. Any suggestions are welcome. I will post more pictures once I decide on the contents.

Pop rivets? Hollow rivets? Chicago screws? Thread and needle?

Some methods I have made very good experiences with.

As for the contents, we had a contest in april here, its a sticky now. Look it over and maybe you'll see ssome things you like.

There has to be a better way to secure the pouch. Looks great. For a becker sheath, you might do best by sewing it to the sheath. The gear you showed a picture of looks good to. Only thing you might add is some water purification tabs and a power bar.

You crazy kids and your pouches. ;)

You need a box.

Yeah, it is a BK2. OP, that pouch does in fact look like it was made for that sheath setup you got there. Nicely done.

I would as you said leave out the smith sharpener. Under a microscope the carbide pieces in that thing do some not very fun stuff to your edge. That Lansky sharpener should be more than enough. Can I ask what the multi-allen wrench is for? The mineral oil is a fantastic idea btw.

Back in the day I used cut up mountain bike tire inner tubes to attach things to pack straps and what not. You take an old inner tube and cut some 1 - 1 1/2 inch rings. They hold real well and they're cheap enough. You do have to be able to thread it on the strap though. Adding one to hold something to a sheath would work easy.

your off to a good start :)

1st thing I did to my Brute is swapped out the hardware for nylon lock nuts and flat head screws,I hate allen head bolts, holds dirt ,grime, guts & crud....& will get rusty if you use 'em :D
