Hi Everyone,

with todays' knivesandtools newsletter I was made aware of the exclusive Becker BK72:

BK72.JPG

It's a 1/4" thick slab of CPM S35VN Steel at 58RC with micarta scales and a kydex sheath.

The price of 285€ for the stonewashed & 325€ for the black DLC'd version is quite a bit much to swallow.

If his would have been 3V I'd be more exited, but it still is Becker news :)

Those prices do include 21% VAT, which is deducted when shipping outside the EU (like to the US)

I like it! :D
Especially that a kydex sheath and micarta handles come standard on this one.

Wouldn't mind carrying a stainless beast like that in my pack

My god....

Also for this type of knife, s35vn is a very odd choice.

I agree it's an odd model for S35VN. But maybe there's demand.
Personally I'm not a fan of S35VN below 61Rc. That's where it wakes up.

...and in my experience is brittle af, most of the time. I'm constantly surprised (and quite disappointed, tbh) to see blunted edges and little chips and rolls in all my folders with S35VN...and 20CV, and, and, and...

On the other hand, my AUK Mariner - made of CPM154 - holds an edge GREAT and keeps it with relative ease. Of the powdered steels, the 154 is my hands down fave for value and performance in a stainless blade. My CPM154 AUK Birudashi has been a daily pocket companion for around 10 years now, still as useful as the day I bought it from you, E.

I don't think the price of this BK-2 is out of line, given the steel and the micarta and the Kydex (izzatchu, 710?) - I just don't trust that it won't be a high maintenance purchase, which is absolutely NOT what I am looking for in an expensive, powdered steel blade. I have a couple of bigger, fixed blade Spartan Blades S35VN knives and, even though they are tempered really well...they still pick up mystery dents and little chips with more frequency than anything I have made of D2, or even KA-BAR's 1095CV.
And, it's difficult to sharpen, let alone field sharpen. It sure is nice lookin', tho, with all that satin sheen and black Micarta....

I'm with you in the CPM154 performance/value. It really just... does the job really really well in its CPM form with few drawbacks in its category. Glad you're still rockin' those two, and I'm proud you are! :)

Magnacut is happening as we speak tho, I'll report back. But it will definitely carry a premium.

I think the Becker line in a 60Rc AEB-L or equiv would be an excellent combo.

kinda confused on "collab"... sound more like "we'd like to have a special edition knife, in our choice of steel, 1000 units, can do"?

kabar says "hell yes"...

collab to me sound more like the EskaBar / Becker / Esse, a joining, a marriage of ideas...

collab is the BK-12 - Doug Ritter RSK® Mk2 PerseveranceNEW! Winter 2010 totes...

but i hope it sells well, we need to keep the lights on :)

I would love a stainless BK but $287?

well, there's a number of BKs coming in various stainless (s30/35/etc/v) or semistainless (D2) or super cheap neckers...

Original Magnum Camp in Stainless - should run you $500+ up to $800 with bennies

BK99 is it? S3xV - run you some $450+

you pay what you pay.

same thing by a non Becker marque? often more :D
