I have a Kukri but really like the becker knives. I also have a BK2. I was wondering if I should keep the Kukri or go for the BK9. Any pros and cons would be welcome, thanks. The knife is used as a large camp knife. Also I have an extra bk2 (slightly used) if anybody is interested in a trade for a BK9. If interested bk2 and kukri possibly together for bk9 if you want them.

If your BK2 is the new one with the new sheath and pommel, consider me VERY interested in the trade for the two. My BK9 is only very slightly used from some light "testing."

I think you would be very happy with the BK9 as a large camp knife, as I feel that a Kukri is very limited in its function. You can't butcher, baton or defend with a Kukri the same way that you can with the BK9.

I picked up a kabar kukri to compliment my BK-2 for heavy chopping tasks... was not very pleased with it. Simply put, large choppers should never have hollow grinds - the freaking thing got stuck in everything I swung at! Eventually I spent several hours giving it a convex grind and was semi-pleased with it afterward. However, the point of a true kukri is to be a good compromise between a large knife and an ax. While it made for a decent chopper, the relatively thin spine really made it more of a bent machete... you need that mass and thick spine to chop and baton through hard (perhaps seasoned) wood.

Since I liked the kukri design and Kabar/BK-T has yet to bring back the Machax, I ended up picking up an authentic kukri (Himalayan Imports). I was very pleased with it and have since amassed 5 of them. The BK-9 is a great knife and I intend to pick one up eventually, but there's just nothing like a kukri design for heavy chopping. It's really why I'm quite antsy for the Machax to get revived - I badly want one now that I know what a kukri can do!

Oh, and here's a comparative shot of the spine of my kabar "kukri" and my HI 18", 37oz Vojpure. The kabar kukri has about a .15"ish thick spine whereas the Vojpure has a .55"ish one:
