Becker BK9 Sheath

So I know there is lots of talk about the BK9 sheath. I read the posts on how to remove the insert so that I could heat it up (boiling, heat gun) to remove the rattle. Well I tried and tried to remove the insert and just could not get it out. I have worked on it three separate times and finally got frustrated and cut the sheath to find out the problem. Turns out the insert was actually sewn in to the sheath. I have pictures but no way to post them. I can email to someone that can post the pictures. I have a kydex sheath for the BK9 so I really didn't need the stock sheath. I just wanted to understand and post the problem for future owners that have a hard time removing the insert. Thanks!

If you get some pliers you can pull the insert out, I did this on my BK7 sheath...

Slapper, Sent you a message to get your email so that I can send the pics to you. Thanks for doing that.

Sorry it took so long to respond, when I checked my email there was a deal on maxpedition, and I was checking what I could get for $100.

Thanks slapper! As you can all see by these high quality pics (sarcasm!) the insert was sewn in there on one side pretty good. You can also see the plier marks where I tried to get the insert out. If the insert looks a little deformed it is because I tried to boil the whole sheath and work it so I could try to get the insert out.

Thx SoCo & Slapper! I have been toying with the idea of modding my bk9 sheath, and now know why I couldn't pull the insert out with pliers alone....

I hope to fix it up someday soon and see if I can eliminate the blade rattle a bit, and maybe reduce the size of the sheath overall so it's more compact.

That must be a new thing, all the inserts I have removed were just glued in. Interesting to know but sucks you had to cut your sheath

Yeah it sucks. I actually liked the sheath just not the rattle. I ended up cutting it because in the process of trying to remove the insert, the sheath started to tear at the bottom. I have a kydex sheath that I carry my 9 in so I still have some way to carry it.

Well that explains that. I tugged on mine pretty good and it wouldn't budge. Now we know!

The small remora sheath seems to be in there pretty good as well.

this is great!! I just got a BK9 like 2 weeks ago, I was trying to figure a good way to put a paracord wrap on it today and I have to say I hate the sheeth!!..:thumbdn::mad:
I love my Junglas and I'm ok with my RTAKII but this becker is so disapointing.
Sweet blade but I can't do anything with this sheeth.
Where do you get a good kydex for the 9?

I tried not to pull too hard, didn't wanna eff up my sheath. I think I might as well go ahead and get a remora to put in there.

If anyone is looking to get rid of a stock BK9 sheath just let me know. I'm glad we found out about this. I really felt like an idiot when I couldn't get the insert out and everyone was getting their inserts out so easy!

you can pm me here and we'll make arrangements

Who makes solid kydex sheaths that are as minimal as possible for the bk9? Mine should be here wendesday and I want a sheath system with just a belt clip.

It won't hurt your sheath. It will pop right out with no damage, but you gotta swell up and yank on it. (that might not have come out the way I meant)

I pulled a chunk of insert the size of my plier jaws off of my insert trying to get it out, with the bottom of the sheath tied to my deck. Then I just cut the back stitching, pulled it out, stuck it in the oven at 350 for about 5 minutes checking every minute, and clamped it til it cooled, sewed it back in and voila. Snug enough that it won't fall out held upside down without the retainer fastened.
