Becker Bk9 Vs Ontario knives and Khukuri for small tasks

It seems to me that for the last few years, or even decades, there has been a large movement towards survivalists pushing that a small knife can do nearly all of the chores that a large knife can do, with the correct technique.

Although this is true, I believe that they will never be as efficient at large knife tasks, and that the right large knife can do the same tasks as a small knife.

Ethan once mentioned that to test a knife he likes to make a tent stake, so that is what I did! (with a couple other notches to make a mini try stick) And guess what, the Bk9 did awesome! I think the Bk9 really shined in the comparison.

In my latest YouTube video, I compare the Becker Bk9, Ontario Sp5, 10, and Rtak II, and an EGKH Traditional Service Khukuri while making a try stick, to see how comfortable each knife is for doing small chores. Please check it out, and subscribe!

If you missed the first two videos in the series, and you are curious about the performance of these popular knifes, check them out! And of course, please subscribe to my channel :-)

I didn't get to finish watching the whole video yet, but the first few minutes looked good. I subscribed! I love seeing beckerheads filling youtube with good videos and information. Keep it up

I prefer a larger knife. It's easy for me to have a second blade in a multitool, BOB, etc. Even if I were dropped out of a plane with just one knife, it would be something more than 7 inches.

Thanks guys!
I am really new, and my video editing and equipment definitely need upgrading... And i could be a lot better on camera too!
But I LOVE comparing things, and testing things.
So I have a long ways to go, but I am shooting for making this a part time job, so I have high aspirations.
I will get a Becker into EVERY comparison that I can, because I am a proud Beckerhead! With that being said, I still try to be unbiased in every video, in every way that I can.

I came upon this idea while waiting on the bk21 to come out. Man I have come a long way since then!
But when it does come out, trust me, I will have a SWEET lineup of khukuris to compare!
But next will probably be machetes, then probably mid sized over built survival knives...

By the time I am done with this series and the next two, hopefully I will have had the 21 in my hands for a few months to get familiar with!

The reason the BK9 is so useful to me is that I really can do just about anything I'd need to do with it to setup a camp/shelter (tent stakes, feathersticks, etc). Its surprisingly capable in small knife tasks. Thats why even though its not the best chopper out there, I'd rather have it than say... the Marine raider bowie.

Also, I'm not a video expert, but I've done some editing and video work and have some ideas for you.

An external/remote mic would REALLY help with the sound quality. It was just really hard to hear you, and your volume varied a lot depending on how far away you were from the camera, which made it hard to get the right volume level on the viewers end. An alternative might be to just do a voiceover with a simple USB microphone on the computer (I like the samson go-mic, its cheap, small, and sounds great). The voiceover might change how you record things, as you don't want to have to lip sync :p, but it shouldn't be a big problem.

Another thing, when you're showing us the knives, you were moving around a lot, and the camera was frequently focusing on the wrong thing (wasn't super obvious, but its noticable for sure, usually the background was in focus, but the knives were a bit out of focus). It might be easier to film each knife separately from a static point, or against a flat background, and then edit them into the correct order.

Anyway, just a few suggestions :).

Nice video!

Needs more BK9 screen time though. ;)

Coconuts up next, eh?

Good points Logan! I know that I have a long way to go and a shotgun mic is first on my list of things to purchase. I am hoping that if I can do a few more videos with quality information and intentions, that maybe the little things can slide until I get a youtube paycheck to upgrade my equipment.

With that being said, I do like the voice over idea, and it would be very easy to do. I would just have to change how I do things. Re structure a bit.

I am pretty new to this, and just learning, so I REALLY appreciate your help guys. Ill talk all the constructive criticism that I can get, because it will make me better.
