Becker Black Epoxy Question

I am considering sharpening the false edge on my BK7. What I need to know is if I do this, will removing the epoxy coating in that area ruin the inegrity of the rest of the coating? Or should I say will the coating want to start pealing off starting at the place that I removed it?

I can't speak for the BK7, but on my TacTool I have worn off the coating in spots on the blade with no detrimental effect to the integrity of the surrounding coating. The epoxy coating is adhered very well to a rough steel finish and should not peel away. I've reprofiled the edge on two Beckers and have not seen any sign of the coating peeling off either.

Do keep the coating away from any solvents like paint thinner, MEK, etc. I know for a fact that paint stripper will take the epoxy coat right off.

My experiences with it indicate that it should remain okay where you haven't disturbed it. In the testing reviewed in the two lengthy threads linked below, the Becker coating was plasticene vs Busse's more ceramic-like brittleness. When struck with a claw hammer on the spine, the Becker coating squished and thinned itself out until the skin of it sort of tore open to leave small areas of the metal underneath exposed. The coating on the rest of the blade remains intact.
