Becker Blade Coating Question

Will or Phil,

When Camillus was in the process of bringing back the Becker line, was there any consideration to using Blak-Ti® (titanium carbonitride) coatings for the blades rather than the black epoxy coating currently available?

Tia,

Harry

Harry,
Thought about it for a BRIEF few seconds! Black-Ti is not cheap, especially when you keep in mind that they cost the process based on how many objects[blades] that the coaters can get into the coating chamber at once. Soooo, let's see, you could get in a dozen 4" folder blades, or 1 BRUTE! Off the top of my head, I would estimate that we would have about 20 times the coating coast per blade with Black-Ti in a BRUTE over the epoxy powder coat that we currently use,...and BTW, we are very pleased with.
This would be EXTREMELY cost prohibitive.

Besides, one of the main advantages of PVD coatings like Black-Ti, is that it is VERY thin, which is great for precisely fited folders, but relatively unimportant for fixed blade knives. Thanks for the interest!

Thanks, Will.

I had a feeling that the cost of Blak-Ti® would have been the make or break point.
