My BK3 has served me well, very well in fact, but I feel that she is ready for retirement; or at least an extended vacation!
She has been through hell and back and keeps coming back for more and the transition has been beautiful.

(more pics inbound...sorry for the size!!)

Since she is ready to rest for a while, she has been getting lonely lately and I feel that she needs a companion. I have been tearing myself apart trying to decide what Becker should come next to the family...

I keep coming back to the BK2 and the BK7 but I cannot decide which I would love more.

-I would use either blade as my main blade: wood processing if necessary, light chopping (small branches and such), bushcrafty chores, etc...
-I want to strip it and get the aftermarket scales (both look beautiful)
-possibly etch the blade
-Will eventually get a spec ops sheath for either blade
-Choil will be added if BK7 is chosen

*I must add that I have very small hands and the BK3 is just a tad beefy for me...

Becker Boys and Girls, which blade should enter my family next?? Pics would help the process along :D:D

Thank you, take care

Bk2. I got the scales and just recieved a specops survival sheath the other day (pics another day) I've had good success stripping, convexing, and also added a nice patina with vinegar. The scales were just icing on the cake. It's a great blade and will serve you well. My $0.02

What scales did you get?
Thanks

Owning both the 7 and the 2 I would go for the 2.

Wood processing? Check! Light chopping (small branches and such) Check! You can even cross cut baton what you can't or don't want to chop. Bushcrafty chores? Check! Pretty sure there is a thread somewhere of the BK 2 carving spoons!

I use mine all the time. It carries well and is a great main blade.

That being said you will also get the 7 anyways down the road,

Jeremy

I think the bk2 is your next step. Heres why i think that:

while both blades are great, I think that you should go big (width wise) or go home first. The bk7 is light and quick and longer, but the bk2 just feels better and it feels stronger. Also IMO i would rather have a blade that i was like "hmm its a tad too thick or short for my liking" then have one that i felt was too long and thin. The bk2 is just bulletproof. go get one, ill tell your wife/girlfriend that it was on sale today. i got your back

Seems like the BK2 is winning so far!
Are there any sports shops that are known to carry Beckers?
I kinda want to handle both to aide in the decision-making since my hands are tiny and pics do not do justice :)

The Bk2 should have the same handle size/feel as your Bk3. BUT the Bk 2 will have a better feel in handle than the Bk3 due to the decrease in weight/length. I have small hands and I feel 100% comfortable witht he Bk2.
The Bk7 has a thinner, lighter, faster feel and I am concidering adding liners to thicken the handle like my Bk2.

if you dont have a kabar dealer in your area dont fret, if you were to pick up a bk2 from a dealer like tomars kabars and you dont like it, they resell very quickly and easily.

I have both and usually grab the 2 so that would be my choice. The 7 is lighter and quicker in the hand but I just feel like the 2 can do it all.

I'll agree with everyone else and suggest starting with the BK2. It's the first one I bought and it's really great. I've handled the 7 and while it's nice, it just doesn't have the same feel in hand that the 2 does.

I would also recommend Tomars, I've had nothing but positive experiences.

Only store I've seen a Becker in my area was the local army/ navy store. I like them for a lot of things but they want $100 for the BK7 (only model they carry). I like local, but not a 53% hike.

I'll second or third Tomar's. I have bought all of mine but one there. Great prices and ships quickly.

What your BK7 might look like after your choil mod. I say get them both. Yup, they are that good.

Twinstick, that looks sweet!! Which do you use more often or like better out of the two blades in question??
What do you think about the BK2's weight when using it? Is it a hinderance or a detail that I am just over-thinking??
(Heck, if i could get my hands on a 10 before they are all gone, the 2 and 7 may have to wait!! I am diggin' that design :D)

I think someone posted recently that KABAR might still have a few 10s. Give them a ring.

Honestly you WILL NOT be disappointed in the 2. Hard to beat for the money and with your criteria it's a perfect fit.

Regardless if you end up with other Beckers, you really should have at least one bk2.

when I got into beckers I got the BK2 and BK9 together and I'm sure glad I did. chopping anything of size with a BK2 is a serious chore but it can be done. a lanyard will help.

Luckily, I do not ever find myself in need of serious chopping
The most chopping I ever do really is with small branches so I think I will be good

another vote for the 2. It is strong, extremely cost efficient, and a trustworthy companion. And even if you do not get the micarta scales, the grivory works just fine. It is not slippery as some may say.

thanks. good luck on getting your next Becker :D

Another vote for the 2, I freaking love mine. The 7 is a great knife, but once I handled the 2 it was a done deal.
