Hello, I don't post often, so forgive me if I am in the wrong area. I have been around long enough to know a good bit about knives, but recently, I have wanted to get in the business of creating them. I have not attempted to build one yet, but recently I found an old Becker Brainard milling machine for $600. Would this be a good purchase for a beginner knife maker and working on other projects?

The link to the machine is https://southjersey.craigslist.org/tls/d/milling-machine-horizontal-becker/6840925970.html

Of all the machines I lust after, a horizontal mill is not one of them. As Hoss said, vertical mill will be much more useful. In my opinion, a surface grinder would be even more useful than a vertical mill.

However, the single most useful machine a new knife maker can buy is a 2X72 grinder.

that machine needs repair, i would steer clear of it. a grinding machine you can make blades and handles on. i will suggest one of those first.
