The brute is a brute.

I scooped a used one from a member here. Used and stripped, but sweet. I'm not usually a large knife person, preferring to do my hacking and chopping with a hatchet or axe. But this knife speaks to me. The Beckers and Rats are gaining my high regards at a rapid pace.

Had the brute out on a test run last night. Some light chopping, splitting and baton work. I think I'm going to like this knife.

I really like my Brute! Post pics please - we all love pics

Here's a shot of mine:

Today, someone recommended the Brute to me as a general camp tool for use during backpacking. I'm seeking a relatively light weight, relatively small (12" - 15") blade for chopping small stuff (1" - 3").

I was considering the Kabar Kukri machete, but now I'm not sure for various reasons.

I'm finding the Brute is no longer in production, though.

What other Becker (or other manufacturer) blades will come closest to the Brute in form and function?

I have heard a lot of good things about the KaBar Heavy Bowie. You might want to look at some of the shorter Condor Knife & Tool Machetes.

well, probably the MachAx. which may be in production once more. someday down the road unlike the Brute which they say for sure won't.

the only likely way you're going to get a MachAx at this point, is from ePray or a forumite selling one - which thankfully, happens enough :) there's a lot out there, and they are great tools.

in the current lineup, you're going to want the combat bowie is very good. get one of those. you'll like it lots.

Two things - they're going to make the Machax again????? :D:thumbup:

Somebody would sell their Machax? Are they nuts? - oh,...probably collectors, certainly nobody that uses it.

Mine:

And just in case you think I'm a blind-loyal Becker fan, I just sold my only Camillus BK-7 (didn't work for me) and am undecided about my BK-2.

The Cincinnatti Machax is absolutely my favourite knife of all time, bar none, including my Barkies!!!

Doc

I'd love to get my hands on a "user" Machax after all the good I've heard about them. I have a Brute, but it takes a backseat to my BK-9.

Hey Doc, if you decide to let your BK-2 go, give me a holler! I'd be interested!

Thanks!

That kind of a sweet piece.

I have been having a good time with the Brute. Need to get some pictures.

I think I like the BK-7 better than my BK-9. But to be honest I take the Brute most of the time.

Hey Plainsman,

I haven't played with it enough to decide. I did have it up for sale on a trade blanket, awhile back, but it didn't sell and since then I have decided to reconsider. Sold my Camillus BK-7 though.

I know a lot of people like the BK-7 and hey, whatever works for you, but I found it too big for smaller work, and not big enough for chopping. As always, though, YMMV. I guess I'm not a fan of mid-size knives.

If you're interested in a BK-2 they're still available and the shipping would be a lot less for the U.S. from the U.S., but thanks for the consideration.

It is one beast of a knife!

And in case you don't know, Jeff Randall did a very favourable review of the BK-2 in a previous issue of Tactical Knives.

BTW, I have a Himalayan Imports CAK - 15.5 inch 27 ounces in the mail. It will be interesting comparing it to the Machax (14.5 inch 20 ounces) due to the similarity in design.

Doc (Machax Rules!!!!)

Thanks for the reply!

If we ever did have a chance to deal, I'd just have you ship it to my brother in law or father in law, they are both in Winnipeg and I'd pick it up when we visit! ;)

I like all the Beckers I have! I have the Necker on me every day and the BK-7 is usually in my day bag. My BK-9 rides beside my seat in the Jeep all the time. The Brute was a great blade for me, as it was my first Becker. However, once I got the BK-9, I found it was better at chopping than the Brute and that's the main use of my big blades.

TTYL!

i have an HI Bonecuter by Sgt Khadka that I helped birth... I insisted on a few things, including it being full-tang, and Auntie Yangdu came through. Unlike a CAK you'd not want to pry with it (though you could i imagine), however, it has an edge/profile unlike anything else, and it can outchop anything i've EVER used, it's really quite amazing. my prefered tool for delimbing trees and doing shrubberies, when i'm not using a Fiskars brushhook

the MachAx is a lot lighter, and has a simlar edge profile actually, so you can use it a lot longer, and for different things - it's quite versatile and i'd prefer camping with it, and other chores where a heavy khukri isn't necessary.

this from the guy with more MachAxen than sense :>

i'm very looking forward to a KaBar MachAx or three.

Nice scoop on that Brute! Those are hard to find.

I've always been more partial to the BK-9. What makes you like the BK-7 better?

Every blade is much better then no blade;)

I thing the bk7 is more handy then the bk9... i´ve i gonna chop some wood so i do bantonig...i´ve wanna have a long stick for spaer i cut the tip untill the stick falls...or i do bantonig...

I thing everyone gonna change the blade´s in you´re rotation..then in the time when you realy in a survival situation, you often has not you´re favorit knive in you´re hand... thing about car crash(okay in USA the law is a mutch better then in Germany;) mutch mutch better in USA) or you fly withe a Chestner and go down in the wood´s like in the movie...

So Use a lot of knive:) have many fun and hope(i do it for my self) that i never has use my some skills, for save my life...

Great´s

Kay

Actually, I have already been considering the Bone Cutter as my next purchase (if I can resuscitate my Visa ). There was one in DOTD a couple of days ago, but I missed out on it.

Anyway back to the Machax vs the CAK - I doubt, no, I know, there is nothing that will ever replace the Machax for me, as far as carrying in the field (7 oz. lighter than the CAK, for one thing), although I guess I should keep an open mind.

Besides being a good, not overly heavy, chopper, I find that the Machax works well for carving fireboards, trap parts, etc. with the area close to the handle. It also works well as a draw knife.

I am also looking forward to a KaBar Machax.

the MachAxe is a more versatile and better made tool imho, for one, the heat treat is the full length of the blade, vs a quench area near the working end...

bonecutter - yah, do get a Sgt Khadka made one. accept no substitutes (or it's not a proper HI bonecutter imho - it's a matter of the fit and finish, really, and i really did spec out the good Sgt for a reason - the bonecutter is tricky and he's proven he can do it very well)

Thanks for the advice. The CAK coming is a Sgt. Khadka.
