How much stiching is around the edge of the sheath under the binding? One row? Two? Three? Is it nylon thread? What is the webbing on the back of of the belt loop for. It appears designed for a couple of rounds of ammo or for some sort of an attachment device.
I discovered why the nice big pouch has the tight elastic webbing around it. I cut off the webbing because it makes getting something into and out of the pouch impossible if anything but an ammo clip might be put in there. However, without the webbing, the pouch can deform sideways so much that something can squeeze out beside the velcro closure. The velcro closure uses a wonderfully strong velcro, so that is a real plus. All in all I like the sheath a lot. However, I would like to see a moulded plastic or kydex sheath made available.
I think the knife is outstandingly well designed and the choice of steel is very good. Thanks for a solid product.

Darn right you are, that's an attachment for a military ALICE clip (nothing to do with ammo).

Also if you want a full molded Kydex sheath, try contacting Normark (of these forums, his site: http://www.mnsi.net/~nbtnoel/), Blade-Tech (http://shop.blade-tech.com/) or Survival Sheath Systems (http://www.survivalsheath.com/)

any of 'em will almost certainly be happy to hook you up, but I think Normark will make you happy for the lowest amount of $$$ (support the locals!).

Good luck finding out about the stitching, and enjoy your BK7!

This is a pic of mine--I had it made by Clay over at http://balisongxtreme.com/ (xtreme sheathworks). Clay's a great guy and he did a fantastic job and I highly recommend his work.

This is the original thread where I talk about it.

Bill,
I don't have a sheath here in front of me, but I'm pretty sure that the sheath is double stitched. You found your own answer to the elastic band question.....it keeps things in the accesory pouch, even if somehow the velcro closure comes undone. It also, as you found out, keeps the sides from "deforming" sideways, and loosing items. We fell that with the type items that will most likely be put in the pouch, it is much more important to not LOSE THEM, than to be able to "fast draw" them.

And as Young Cutter responded, the webbing on the back of the belt loop is to accomodate mil-spec ALICE clip attachments.....or as lotsa troops figure out, industrial strenght cable ties[zip ties] work well, and don't rust:rolleyes:

Thanks for being a customer!

YC,
First, its not the C/U 9......its the BECKER COMBAT BOWIE...the model number is the BK9. Just like the model number for the BRUTE is the BK1.

Secondly, the blade is 9", and the OAL is 14.5".

Thanks for the interest!
