Hello all. I might have the opportunity to acquire a Becker/Camillus BK10 Crewman. For any that have one or have used them, what are your opinions of them? I have a BK2 (Ka-Bar), a SY Dumpster Mutt, a SY S5, and a SR Ratmandu, so if you can compare to any of those, that might help. Thanks!

it's a good knife. don't pay more than retail for it if you can help it ;)

basically being a bit thinner than a BK2, it may slice better, it's lighter, and a touch stubbier. many people like it.

that's about it.

I have one with custom made handles and the thumb ramp gound off

It's a sweet knife--cuts better than the BK-2(but does not chop as well as it's lighter)

If you do not like it--you will be able to re-sell it VERY fast.

get one and try it out

I have one and love it. I find that I play with the BK2 more, only because my BK10 is Desert tan, a little harder to find and therefore somewhat collectable. I know I shouldn't care about that, but I do. I really want KA-BAR to start making this one again so I can get another and mess 'er up guilt free.

The BK10 is lighter and thiner than the BK2. I find it a bit more comfortable in the hand. If you are going to have a chopper in your arsenal, and the choice is between a BK2 and a BK10, I would pick the BK10. It just feels a little... I don't know... sportier?

That being said, I understand that KA-BAR has said that they will reproduce the BK10, but who knows when. If you are going to pay more for a BK10 than a BK2 right now, I would pass on it on wait for the KA-BAR version. If you are getting it for a good bargin, or in a trade, I would snatch it.

Ah, the BK10. Near perfect. Basically a BK9 only 4" shorter. It was light, quick in the hand, good bush knife. You batonned the spine instead of chopping and it worked really, really well as just a good belt knife. I thought mine was handier than my Campanion, and at half the weight, it was.

I have never owned a SR knife, so, I can't compare, but for those that thought the BK2 was too thick and heavy, found the Crewman to be perfect.

Get it, you won't be disappointed. If you are, pm me and I'll take it off your hands.

PS, the BK2 is nearer to perfection than the BK10 for me, I like 'em big and heavy. Knives, just knives.

ETA, look for the 2011 lineup to be spectacular, and if you see something you want, get it ASAP, as some stuff may only be limited runs. But you didn't hear that from me, 'cause my name's Smith and I didn't say $hit.

:D I have one that I got used in a trade. Great knife. My only complaint is the coating on the blade. Looks kinda like spray paint.:D

could be ;) someone might have previously stripped it, and painted it later.

so, perfect project. strip it. clean it up, leave it, or recoat it. there's some fantastic paint options out there now, from tactical paints to various krylons, and some very good rustoleum texture paints.

The BK10 is my personal fave... it's somehow unlike any other knife for field use.

Get it if you can, and let's all hope Kabar decides to release a new version...
