Received my knife today and noticed the Kydex sheath does not fit the knife blade tight enough. It wiggles around and is noisy.

Why did they make it like that, could they not use the classic diagonal pattern of the leather sheaths ?

I purchased a small Norton India stone, fine on one side and coarse on the other side. I only used water as I want to keep it inside the sheath compartment. My question is why is it not becoming hair popping sharp ? It is sharp, but I think that it could become sharper. Do I need an Arkansas extra fine stone or perhaps a diamond stone ?

BB

One disappointment is the handles are held together my a nut that requires an allen key to open it. Unfortunately, they do not include an allen key with the knife. I am a little disappointed about that.

However, I am still happy with my decision to purchase the knife. It is a fair price for a knife of the quality.

I doubt anyone could sharpen a 7" blade with a pocket-size India stone and make it hair-popping sharp.

Try an 8" benchstone, use the pocket stones for field use only.

As far as the allen wrench, sears has them for about 2 bucks.

I think the kydex rattle sucks, but I am willing to accept that on a $50 knife.

Recondoc1 reports in an earlier thread that he fixed the noise problem by wrapping a 1/5" by 1.5" piece of nylon webbing around the tip of the knife and forcing that into the bottom of the kydex.

Why doesn't Camillus use their brain and mold the Kydex to the knife. That would be the sweet and professional way to do it :)

I read in one thread or another that they intentionally left some "slop" in the sheath to accomidate slight differences in stock thickness etc. However the insert is kydex... so you should be able to pull it out and form it to the blade.

I believe the intention was to allow lefties an opportunity to have a sheath too. The sheath works equally well for left or right hand carry, at least on my sample.:)

If I'm right the kydex sheath was made intentionally to have a little space between the blade and insert so the dried dirt could come off of the blade after field use when the whole thing rattles of course. That's a winner in my book.

I solved the loose rattle blade problem in my sheath by sliding out the insert and then on the bottom of the insert I slipped in a measuring tape belt clip. The belt clip came off of a broken 30 ft. tape measure. Slid the insert back into the sheath with the clip at the bottom. It holds the knife tight and no longer rattles. Easy to remove, just reverse process.
